Netflix’s 'Boyfriend On Demand' Cast And Character Guide: Who Are The Boyfriends?

Boyfriend on Demand has a lot to say about modern dating, where AI is taking us as a society, and what love really is. Though there’s already a lot of star power with the leads, Ji-Soo and Seo In-Guk, the guest appearance cast is stacked as well. In particular, you can tell the virtual boyfriends were having the time of their lives. Without further ado, here’s a quick rundown of who’s who in the cast of Boyfriend on Demand.

Seo Mi-Rae, Played By Kim Ji-Soo

Seo Mi-Rae is a dedicated career woman who never really got over her last breakup. A PD at Naemo Webtoons, she faces the difficult task of wrangling the moody webtoon artist Yun Song into being productive and punctual. She is also one of the first women to get a chance to test out the Boyfriend on Demand service. Mi-Rae is played by Kim Ji-Soo, or Jisoo of Blackpink. As an idol, Jisoo’s voice is unique, especially within Blackpink, where everyone has a higher-pitched voice than hers. She’s been in the industry for a long time, but her acting career only began in the 2020s. Starting with Arthadal Chronicles (okay, I know this one came out in 2019); followed by 2021’s Snowdrop, which received wide acclaim thanks to its emotional storyline; Newtopia, a show about zombies; and the film Omniscient Reader.

Park Kyeong-Nam And Gu Yeong-Il, played By Seo In-Guk

Although it’s always impressive to see an actor take on a double role, Park Kyeong-Nam and Gu Yeong-Il are extremely similar, even though they might not seem that way on paper. Kyeong-Nam is Mi-Rae’s coworker at Naemo, and they’re both extremely competitive. Yeong-Il is a virtual boyfriend with a hint of bad boy to him, while simultaneously being very gentle. They’re both artists, and it’s a shame we don’t get to see hyper Seo In-guk, because this dull version, while good, just doesn’t hit as hard. Seo In-Guk’s been in the industry since he was a teenager. His most notable roles span Reply 1997, The Master’s Sun, Shopping King Louis, Doom At Your Service, Death’s Game, and more. As he’s gotten older, his roles have gotten too serious, and I miss the joking guy that I was obsessed with after watching Reply 1997 (watch it if you haven’t!). Hope he returns to that kind of role sometime soon.

Lee Ji-Yeon, Played By Ha-Young.

Ji-Yeon is Mi-Rae’s bestie, and the one thing about her that matters in the context of this show is that she’s desperate to find the right man. Boyfriend on Demand uses her character to showcase some of the pitfalls of modern dating, with her having a lot of trouble finding what she’s looking for. Somehow also having debuted in 2019, Ha-Young has, for obvious reasons, done a lot more TV shows than Jisoo, including Private Lives, Chocolate, Mouse, and Doona! I think she was great in Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, finally getting a main role after all this time (even if it’s still in a male-centric show, sigh).

Kang Ho-I, Played By Yoo In-Na

What’s an AI program without a friendly face? Kang Ho-I is the dating manager, basically a UI in human form, who introduces you to Boyfriend on Demand and gets you set up with the boyfriend of your dreams. Really, she’s in there to urge you to stay subscribed, and maybe even upgrade your subscription to the premium version.

Yun Song, Played By Gong Min-jung

She might be the best in her field, but Yun Song is the most arrogant and disrespectful webtoon artist on the show, and she can’t stand the thought of not being number one. That’s why the emergence of her rival, Hwany, is such a threat to her, causing her to behave more and more erratically as the show goes on. But there’s only so much you can hate a character played by Gong Min-Jung. She’s always been incredible as a supporting character in whatever she does. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her play the leading lady, but I have noticed that this industry often puts supporting actresses in a box. You may know her from Hometown Cha Cha Cha, as the bestie; Marry My Husband; or the film Concrete Utopia. The actress certainly has a respectable portfolio.

Hwany, Played By Yoo Seon-Ho

Emerging webtoon artist Hwany is managed by Kyeong-Nam, and his rivalry with Yun Song can almost be conflated with Kyeong-Nam’s rivalry with Mi-Rae. He’s young and a little brash, but he’s really just trying to find a foothold in the industry while secretly being a fan of Yun Song. Seon-Ho is the youngest actor on this list, but I’m sure he wasn’t intimidated by the rest of this cast. He’s been in shows like The Story Of Park’s Marriage Contract, Doctor Lawyer, and My Strange Hero.

Kim Se-June, Played By Kim Sung-Cheol

Kim Se-June is Mi-Rae’s ex, the man who broke her heart, though it wasn’t entirely his fault. He still seems to care for her, but things came to a point where it would be unfair to both of them if the relationship dragged on. Some actors just have the look of villains, and I think Kim Sung-Cheol is one of them. Likely because he was so good as the villain in Sweet Home 3. You may also know him from Racket Boys, Death’s Game, Vincenzo, and Hospital Playlist.

Seo Eun-Ho, Played By Seo Kang-Joon

Let’s get straight into the boyfriends now. A college student when we first see him, Eun-Ho initially comes across as a very serious, goal-oriented man until he lets his guard down a little and we get to know him better. Although he’s a virtual boyfriend, he’ll definitely make you put the work in to earn his affection. I’m going to be honest with you, I never fell for the Seo Kang-Joon hype, maybe because by the time it started, I was already juggling way too many actors on my list of best K-drama actors I would never betray. You may know him most famously from Are You Human? Cheese In The Trap, or To The Beautiful You.

Choi Si-Woo, Played By Lee Soo-hyuk

One of Boyfriend on Demand’s boyfriend archetypes, Choi Si-Woo, is based on the character from Yun Song’s hit webtoon, The Man to Know. As soon as you see his character art, you know who it’s based on. Lee Soo-Hyuk literally looks like he’s straight out of a comic, so it makes sense he’s the first of the guys we meet. You may know him from Doom At Your Service, Tomorrow, Wedding Impossible, or High School King Of Savvy, with Seo In-Guk.

Jjong, Played By Choi Si-won

Yun Song’s smooth-talking handsome chef boyfriend, Jjong, has a silky smoothness to his style of seduction that works perfectly on her. Though he’s introduced quite late in the show, even with his limited screentime, he makes quite the impression. Si-Won is a member of the popular K-pop group Super Junior, and you may know him from Work Later, Drink Now, She Was Pretty, or Bloodhounds.

The Assassin, Played by Kim Young-Dae

For those who like a bit of mystique in their love lives, the Assassin doesn’t look like a bad choice, though we can’t guarantee it’ll be a risk-free one. The actor debuted as a leading man in the piping hot school drama Extraordinary You, which took over the world when it came out (yes, for K-drama fans, fine). You may know him from Shooting Stars, which notably got him a lot of acclaim. He was also in The Penthouse, No Gain, No Love, and most recently, Dear X.

The Doctor, Played By Lee Jae-Wook

Dominant and kind of rude, the doctor (no Tardis here, sadly) could be the right man to sweep a girl off her feet if she’s into confident professionals who know how to be firm without being pushy. If you know K-dramas from the last few years, you know Lee Jae-Wook. The actor rose to fame as the “actor” in Search WWW, starring opposite the much older and experienced Lee Da-Hee. Nobody would’ve thought this was his second role ever! You may know him from Alchemy of Souls, The Impossible Heir, or Dear Hongrang.
