KUCHING, Mar 9: The ‘Kembara Ukas 2026 Demi Rakyat’ programme officially set off today from Telok Melano, launching a 1,750-kilometre journey across Sarawak’s coastal areas and key development sites to engage communities and bring government policies and development efforts closer to the people, with the initiative running until March 21.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the programme provides a two-way platform for communication, allowing the government to share information while listening to local concerns.
It seeks to identify community needs and gather feedback on the implementation of State initiatives.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate, Information and Ukas Affairs) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the initiative is more than just a platform for announcements.
“The hope is to create a bridge where the government can understand local issues. For example, in Telok Melano, the community is looking for more tourist attractions, while Sematan town could see further modernisation,” he said at the launch.
He added that the tour will also highlight challenges such as telecommunications coverage and assess development progress in coastal communities.
The programme’s route begins in Telok Melano, passes through Tanjung Datu, and will conclude in Lawas, covering strategic locations to strengthen public understanding of government policies.
The initiative also emphasises engagement in rural areas, reinforcing two-way dialogue between the government and local communities.
Also present were Ukas director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan; Lundu District Deputy Police Chief DSP Mordani Tanin; political secretary to the Premier Abang Abdul Aziz Abang Draup; Sarawak Administrative Officers Monalissa Mariah Brain and Mohd Ameerullah Roslan; senior Ukas officials, community leaders and invited guests. — DayakDaily
