'Girl From Nowhere The Reset' Episode 2 Recap: What Happens To Peck and His Gang?

Girl From Nowhere The Reset has started off decently, taking forward the legacy of Nanno with a new face, but I find the show quite dated in today’s climate. Specifically speaking of the ending of today’s episode, where things panned out in an unnecessary way for the sake of drama. It’s not something I enjoyed at all. When it comes to the stories of hidden cameras and what young men and women are taught while growing up, the way we present these stories is really important. When it comes to Girl From Nowhere, from what I remember, even in the original series, these were the stories that were majorly noticeable because, rather than being effective, they banked on controversy. In this case, we don’t just see the many explicit images; in the end, specifically, we don’t really see the boys punished, but rather get exactly what they wanted. Here’s the thing: I do get the point that the show is making, but I don’t think Gen Z truly appreciates this on-the-nose presentation of the topic. But this is entirely my perspective, so feel free to tell me in the comments how you felt about it. With that said, though, I don’t want to waste any more time, so let’s get straight into episode 2.

Spoiler Alert And Trigger Warning

Why Do Mook and Her Friends Get In Trouble?

Mook and her friends are summoned to the principal’s office because three of the boys at school have been taking sneaky pictures of the girls’ volleyball team. Obviously, this should be grounds for expulsion for the boys, but when the principal finds out what’s been happening in her school, she has the opposite reaction. Immediately, she starts blaming the girls for not wearing skirts that extend to below the knee, and for not walking and sitting the way the school apparently taught them to, even though the girls protest that some of the pictures were taken in the locker room while they were changing. Later, we find out that one of the boys in question is the principal’s son, though we don’t find out if that played a factor in her decision or if she was just trying to “save” the school’s reputation. It’s always when girls go to people of authority for help that they’re told they’re in the wrong; this likely never happens to boys.

The girls are then introduced to Nanno, the new girl at school. After they get scolded for having nail polish on, they’re all bitter, but they’re so used to it at this point that they can still joke about the situation. Not only were their images leaked, but they also had their faces and “ratings” on there too, and they compare ratings to make the injustice feel more digestible. But Nanno tells them what happened to them was wrong and gets them to proactively start seeking out the cameras to destroy them. After a long search, they ultimately discover that one of the plushies (bootleg Labubu) hanging off a bag in the locker room had a camera stitched into its eye, and the girls send the boys, Peck, Doi, and Markkaw, a message and destroy the device.

What Happens to Doi and Markkaw?

After Nanno’s interview for the volleyball team, which the boys shared online, they discover there is massive demand among internet (school) perverts for explicit shots of Nanno, and they charge heavily (in advance) for them. So, now that their primary camera has been destroyed, they set out at night and secretly set up a bunch of hidden cameras, and then they go home and start monitoring them. The next morning, and every time they try it again, Nanno, of course, is a mythical creature who steps on the cameras with precision, blacking them out automatically as she approaches. She also taunts the boys by wearing progressively shorter clothes. Eventually, one of the cameras does spot something, but it’s not a woman at all, and Peck and Markkaw start making fun of them for being small and having a mole, but Doi recognizes his own package and gets very self-conscious. Later, when Nanno bumps into him, she makes fun of him, and he feels humiliated, finally getting a taste of his own medicine. But this is the most basic punishment of them all.

Not to be deterred, the boys decide the usual hidden camera tactic isn’t going to work out when it comes to Nanno, so they try to innovate. Markkaw comes up with a camera that he hides in the tip of his shoe, pointing upwards. He then feigns an excuse to talk to Nanno and interview her for Mother’s Day. Like, really, I don’t know how he thought this would work. This is when Nanno causes him to stumble and fall on his back, then does a triangle symbol and sics the dog she was training on Markkaw. The dog bites him and he has to walk with a huge bandage, with the rest of the school mocking him, especially the girls he’d been targeting so far.

Does Peck get what’s coming to him?

The internet perverts are getting impatient by this point, and Peck starts feeling helpless. But then, out of nowhere, Nanno shows up at his house with Markkaw’s camera shoe, saying she wants to return it. Treating it as an opportunity, Peck invites her in, sets up a camera in the bathroom trash can, and gives her a half dozen energy drinks. Like a champ, Nanno drains them one after the other, barely even stopping to take a breath, and when Peck offers to show her where the bathroom is, she just smiles at him, says she doesn’t need it, and leaves. Frustrated, Peck decides it’s time they take the most direct approach, even if it means abandoning all hope of subtlety (it’s just been subtle in his mind).

One of the boys texts Nanno the next day at school, pretending to be Mook, and asks her to come to the audiovisual room. When she gets there, the three boys try to corner her and forcefully take pictures of her, but they don’t know she’s a supernatural spirit. She grabs Peck’s wrist, causing him to scream out in pain, then moves his hand and practically forces him to take the pictures. She warns him that the pictures are so high-definition they’ll take ages to load. She then shoves Doi out of the way and leaves. Day turns into night, and as the boys wait for the image to load, their customers get more and more impatient. Finally, it’s only after Peck’s mother, the principal, comes home that the image suddenly loads. Peck immediately sends the image to his mates and then uploads it for the online perverts, and they all do what you’d expect them to in the privacy of their rooms, though Peck’s mother does walk into his room.

In the ending of episode 2, it’s time for the Mother’s Day event, and a bunch of teachers (including the principal) go up on stage with their sons. That’s when Nanno makes the projector display all the explicit shots on the screen behind them, and the principal gets furious, calling it inappropriate, but Nanno makes it clear the boys who took the pictures are to be blamed instead, pointing towards Peck, Doi, and Markkaw. The girls even put cameras up across the school to catch the trio setting up their hidden cameras. As the principal collapses, Peck freaks out, but the boy who is videographing the event realizes that the last image was never of Nanno, but of the principal herself, even zooming in to make sure. Nanno makes the triangle with her finger again, and all the girls in the auditorium rush to the stage. The three boys are tied to chairs in the middle of a triangle of students, with their eyes stretched open with Clockwork Orange-type implements. For some reason, at this point, Nanno turns around and flashes, forcing them to watch, as if it weren’t what they wanted all along. Sure, there’s an element of horror to it, where the boys have been conditioned to view the triangle with fear and revulsion. In a bit of a post-credits scene, we see Sky from the first episode watching the video of Nanno doing her thing and cheering her on. This means he’s going to continue looking for her, and that could possibly become the overarching plotline of the whole season. I don’t know if I’m really that interested in the individual cases, because they seem to be a little repetitive, but the Sky plot could be interesting for sure, maybe giving us some answers about the girl from nowhere.
