Injured cow brings rush-hour traffic to a standstill on Hong Kong highway

An injured cow on a Yuen Long highway brought rush-hour traffic in northwestern Hong Kong to a standstill on Wednesday morning, prompting authorities to urge residents to use rail services.

The Transport Department said on Wednesday that several lanes near Kam Sheung Road MTR station on the Kowloon-bound Tsing Long Highway were closed after an animal was found on the road.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Citizens please consider using MTR services,” it said.

It noted that traffic congestion stretched along Yuen Long Highway near Fuk Hang Tsuen and San Tin Highway near Fung Kat Heung Road. Bus services on the Kowloon-bound Tsing Long Highway and the Sheung Shui-bound Yuen Long Highway were also affected, with two KMB routes diverted.

Photos and video circulating online showed the cow wandering among vehicles. One image appeared to show injuries to its horns and back, while another showed bloodstains on the road. It remains unclear whether the animal was hit by a vehicle.
