Indian teacher dances with students, hands out Raya money packets
Teacher’s joyful Raya send-off with pupils wins hearts online, highlighting kindness, unity and festive spirit in Malaysia

Raya is just around the corner, and schoolchildren are already enjoying a week-long holiday in celebration of the festive season.

Ravein Raj, a primary school teacher, recently shared a heartwarming video of himself giving his pupils a cheerful send-off before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri break.

“I am a teacher of Indian ethnicity who is deeply grateful for the love and respect shown by my pupils. I would like to wish everyone Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026.

“This video was recorded with parental consent and filmed after the teaching and learning session,” he wrote.

In the video, the teacher is seen dancing joyfully with his pupils, using a long yellow ruler as a pretend guitar while grooving to popular Raya songs such as ‘Nyam Nyam Ketupat’ and De Fam’s ‘Alamak Raya Lagi!’. The lively moment captured the excitement of the festive season and the strong bond between teacher and students.

Cikgu Ravein also distributed duit raya packets to his pupils. The boys greeted him with a respectful ‘salam’ and warm hugs, while the girls smiled as they shook his hand and thanked him.

One light-hearted moment that caught the attention of netizens was a boy politely declining a Disney’s Frozen-themed packet in favour of a different design.

Many online users praised the teacher for his warmth and dedication, while others reminisced about their own schooling days.

“My teachers gave out kicks and rotan (I deserved all of it), and I still miss them. These kids are going to feel it when they grow up and look back at how much they were cared for,” commented a user, Dahya.

Another user, Zakwan Syafiq, shared how a strict teacher once shaped his character.

“I remember my school teacher, Sir Kalai Selvam — strict as anything, but that’s what made me who I am today,” he said.

He recalled the teacher’s advice: “You must be brave enough to take responsibility for your actions. Whatever mistake you make, don’t run away — face it like a man.”

Shah Zen also expressed appreciation for educators like Ravein.

“Other than our parents, teachers are the closest to us, shaping our thoughts and behaviour. Keep it up,” he said.

Moved by the video, another user noted that such moments reflect the kindness and unity among Malaysians, adding that more content like this helps strengthen harmony in the country.
