macOS 26.4 has new Terminal popup warning when pasting commands

macOS Tahoe 26.4 arrived this week, and users have discovered that it comes with a new Terminal security popup when you first try to paste in commands.

macOS 26.4 security warning in Terminal aims to prevent against malware

Thanks to the MacBook Neo, there is a huge base of users that are brand new to the Mac.

And though it’s not an altogether new problem, I’ve observed examples online of some Neo users being tricked into pasting commands into the Terminal that had unintended consequences.

But Apple has a solution to boost general Mac security.

As discovered by X user Mr. Macintosh, macOS 26.4 adds a new Terminal popup when pasting commands from other apps for the first time.

As you can see in the screenshot above, Apple’s popup warns: ‘Possible malware, Paste blocked.’ It then explains:

Users then have an option to still paste the command anyways, or not.

Fortunately, as clarified in a follow-up post, macOS 26.4 won’t show this prompt every time. That would no doubt be incredibly frustrating for experienced Mac users. Instead, the warning seems to appear only once.

Have you seen this new Terminal warning in macOS 26.4? Has it appeared multiple times? Let us know in the comments.
