Memory Of A Killer Season 2 Theories And Expectations: Will Dutch Go After Angelo?
The ending of the first season of “Memory of a Killer” turned out to be something the audience were expecting since the very beginning. Time and again, Angelo had managed to evade having his secret identity as a hitman get exposed, even while struggling to deal with the early onset of Alzheimer’s. However, in the concluding moments of the season, the cat finally got out of the bag as Ferryman, aka Agent Linda Grant, had sent evidence highlighting Angelo’s other life to his daughter, Maria. In the cliff-hanger of an ending, Maria approached her daughter by visiting his NY apartment, making it abundantly clear that she knows everything Angelo tried to keep hidden for so long and wants to verify the evidence directly from her old man. But this family situation is merely the tip of the iceberg of problems that are awaiting Angelo, which are going to be highlighted in the second season.
Spoilers Ahead
Will Maria Forgive Her Father? For someone with as strong a moral compass as that of Maria, the knowledge that her father is a killer for hire is devastating news, to say the least. Undoubtedly, she is going to get overwhelmed by a sense of betrayal, realizing how little she truly knew about her father, but that’s nothing compared to what might happen after Maria learns that her mother, Lea’s, death is directly connected with Angelo’s dreadful profession. Angelo killing Dr. Parks was the reason as to why Earl Hancock was unleashed on Maria’s family by Ferryman in the first place. As if it was not apparent by now, having spent a major part of his life in dark dealings, Angelo has become a destructive influence; no matter how much he tries to protect his loved ones, they always have to pay for his sins. In all probability, Maria, who has just become a mother herself, is going to abandon her father, as this will be the wisest choice for her and her family. And who knows, she might end up reporting him as well to make sure he pays for his crimes. In that case, the subplot of Angelo trying to regain the trust of his daughter and trying to become a part of her family once again might get focus. Alternatively, Maria might learn of Angelo’s struggle with Alzheimer’s, and perhaps she will try to reform her old man during the last phase of his life.
Will Dutch Go After Angelo? Thanks to Joe’s unexpected arrival during the climactic standoff between Angelo and Ferryman, he has now learned about Angelo’s family. Dutch, who has heard Joe’s mention about a certain daughter, rightly suspects that Angelo is keeping a secret from him all through these years. This spells danger for Angelo and his family, as when Dutch learns about their existence, he is going to consider them a liability. Not to mention having a secret so immense will lead him to lose trust in Angelo. It has already been shown that Dutch doesn’t even spare his own blood when it comes to breaking his trust. The only option for Angelo to save his family is to sever contact with them, which is going to happen in the second season anyway after Maria learns the entire truth about him. While there is a possibility that Angelo makes a deal with Dutch and manages to protect Maria and her family from harm, it will take some serious convincing.
Dave’s PredicamentDetective Dave’s case is a real curious one; he proves himself to be a competent investigator by deducing Angelo had killed Henry Bloch, but out of his personal feelings for his family, he decides to spare him and closes the investigation midway, completely turning a blind eye to the fact that Angelo is living a secret life about which his family has no clue. He ruins his credibility by not watching over Earl Hancock even after Maria had mentioned how the ex-con had threatened her!his negligence is part of the reason Maria’s life was in mortal peril. However, things are going to change if in the second season Dave learns Angelo is a hitman, which will definitely leave Dave in a horrible position as he let a hard-boiled criminal off solely because of his personal feelings. Worse, if someone eventually finds out Dave’s gross neglection of professional responsibility, his career is going to be ruined, big time. I don’t really think that Maria is going to share the truth about her father with Dave, but sooner or later, he is going to learn what a terrible mistake he has made. The prospect of Dave going after Angelo is quite interesting, as it will put his relationship with Maria in a difficult situation.
Angelo’s Bond With JoeOne of the understated yet easily the most endearing parts of the first season of “Memory of a Killer” was Angelo’s connection with Dutch’s nephew, Joe, a skilled techie who struggles with paternal issues and looks up to Angelo as a father figure. Angelo took Joe’s help while investigating the Ferryman case, and Joe kept his word to Angelo by keeping it a secret from Dutch. Despite his initial disagreements with Joe and attempts to not try to form an emotional connection, Angelo appreciated Joe for his talents, and his encouragement prompted Joe to even put his life on the line to save Angelo and his family. Even though Joe’s mistake of mentioning his daughter to Dutch has landed Angelo in deep trouble, he will continue to cherish the bond he shares with Joe nevertheless. With troubles mounting up from all sides, Angelo will depend on Joe even more in the second season, and there is a possibility that he will entrust him with the details of both his dual lives.
Angelo Will Look After Nicky’s DaughterAny discussion on the first season of “Memory of a Killer” will not be completed without mentioning Nicky, who protected Angelo and his family twice. An ex-con who went to prison for killing her abusive husband as she tried to protect herself and her daughter from him, Nicky was roped into Grant’s revenge ploy as the FBI agent had promised her freedom in exchange for infiltrating Angelo’s life. Even though Nicky was forced to make arrangements for Earl’s ambush at Maria’s place, she had a change of heart after falling for Angelo. As a mother herself, Nicky couldn’t let Maria, who’s an expecting mother, become a victim of Grant’s vile pursuit of revenge, and her timely warning allowed Maria to protect herself. To make amends for her past actions, Nicky even agreed to Angelo’s proposition to act as a bait to lure out Grant but unfortunately lost her life in the process. Nicky’s daughter is orphaned, and the least Angelo can do to honor her sacrifice is taking care of her daughter. Like the majority of the people in Angelo’s life, Nicky’s blood is on his hands as well, and he needs to make amends for how he failed her.
