TO mark its 80th anniversary, the Road Transport Department (RTD) has selected Penang and will also offer special number plates to mark the occasion.
Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said that it will introduce a special "P-P" vehicle registration number series to mark its anniversary.
Aedy Fadly said the exclusive series marks the eight decades of the agency's role in shaping and enforcing the national transport system.
"The introduction of this special series reflects RTD's identity, legacy and evolution as an agency in transport management, enforcement and regulation," he said at The Top Komtar tourism landmark today.
Earlier, he chaired a meeting on its anniversary celebrations here.
The "P-P" series will be offered to the public via an online bidding process through the JPJ eBid system, which Aedy said ensures transparency and efficiency.
Bidding opens on April 20 and closes on April 24 at 10 pm, with results to be announced within 24 hours on April 25.
Successful bidders must register their numbers on a vehicle within 12 months from the date of the official results letter.
He said that the "P-P" prefix was chosen for its association with Penang, where the anniversary celebrations will be held, as well as its symbolic link to the department's transport and enforcement functions.
He added that previous technical issues, including lag during bidding, had been resolved following system upgrades.
The improved eBid application has addressed earlier complaints, and we are no longer receiving significant reports of disruptions, he said.
Aedy Fadzly also announced that nearly 50,000 unsold registration numbers would be offered at a 50% discount during the Karnival Mega JPJ Madani, taking place from April 24 to 26 at Stadium Batu Kawan.
"These numbers, including attractive category plates priced as low as RM250, will only be available for purchase on-site on April 26," he said.
The public has been invited to attend the carnival on the Prai mainland, with the full list of available numbers to be released later. - April 17, 2026.
