M'sian Woman Admits To Throwing Newborn From 38th Floor Of Sentul Condo | WeirdKaya

A 24-year-old woman was sentenced to two years in jail after she was convicted of infanticide by the KL High Court yesterday (Apr 29).

This comes after Lua Mei Zhu was convicted of throwing her newborn girl from the 38th floor of a condominium unit in Sentul last year, reported NST.

Baby found on 9th floor

According to case facts, MERS 999 received a call from a man at 10.21pm on Feb 26, 2025, after he found a baby with its head badly injured on the verandah of his home on the ninth floor.

A team from the Sentul police Criminal Investigation Department led by arresting officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Hafis Saad conducted a raid at the condominium at about 12.30pm the next day, where Lua was found in a room and subsequently arrested.

Offered a different charge

In August 2025, Lua pleaded not guilty to murder and submitted a representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), resulting in an alternative charge being offered under Section 309A of the Penal Code.

The charge stated that she had wilfully caused the death of her newborn child while her mind was disturbed due to the effects of childbirth, where she faces a maximum 20-year jail term and a fine upon conviction.

Argued act was done due to poor mental health

In mitigation, Lua’s lawyer Loke Kok Mun said the sudden birth of the child had taken a toll on his client’s mental health, and that Lua was diagnosed with depression following a three-month psychiatric assessment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak.

He also added that Lua deeply regretted her actions and admitted she acted immaturely in handling the birth of her child, which was born out of wedlock.

However, Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Shahrizzat Amadan called for a harsh penalty as the offence was a serious one.

Jailed for 2 years

Judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin ordered Lua to serve two years behind bars after he convicted her of infanticide.

Upon hearing the verdict, Lua broke into tears and was comforted by her elder sister and Loke.

Lua’s sentence will take effect from the date of her arrest on Feb 27, 2025.
