“Off Duty” But Still Saved A Life — M’sian Nurse Rushes To Help Woman Choking At Ipoh Hospital Café | WeirdKaya
What started as a calm morning at a café inside Pantai Hospital Ipoh quickly turned into a terrifying situation after a woman suddenly began choking on her food.

As panic spread and family members desperately cried out for help, a nurse who happened to be nearby immediately stepped in to save the day despite officially being off duty.

According to a postshared by the hospital on Instagram, the incident took place on May 4, 2026, near the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) area within the hospital compound.

Nurse had just finished her night shift

The nurse, identified as Siti Maisyura, had reportedly just completed her night shift and was waiting for her son’s follow-up appointment when the incident unfolded.

Although she was dressed casually and no longer on duty, Maisyura did not hesitate when she noticed the commotion nearby.

A woman had suddenly started choking and was struggling to breathe, causing panic among those around her as family members shouted for assistance.

“In situations like this, every second is critical,” the hospital wrote.

Calmly performed Heimlich manoeuvre

Relying on her medical training, courage, and instincts, Maisyura quickly rushed over to help the victim.

She then calmly performed the Heimlich manoeuvre, a first aid technique used to help choking victims by dislodging blockages from the airway.

Thankfully, the obstruction was successfully removed within moments, allowing the woman to breathe normally again.

“Relying on her training, courage, and instinct to save lives, she calmly performed the Heimlich manoeuvre.

“In that terrifying moment, Maisyura was more than a nurse, she was a lifeline,” the hospital said in its statement.

The hospital also said her actions beautifully reflected the 2026 International Nurses Day theme by the International Council of Nurses:

“Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”

Netizens praise nurse for putting others first

The inspiring story quickly touched the hearts of many Malaysians online, with netizens flooding the comments section with praise and prayers for Maisyura.

Among the comments left by users were:

“Thank you to this kind nurse. You are a hero who saved a life. May God bless you and everyone who helped during the incident.”

“We need more people like this nurse. Thankfully she was there, or things could have been much worse.”

“The victim was truly lucky to have a nurse nearby. Proud of this hospital staff member for acting so quickly.”
