KUCHING, May 14: Recognised as a UNESCO green education partner in Paris and listed among STEM member networks involving 99 countries worldwide, Sarawak continues to strengthen its global standing in sustainable education through collaboration with National Geographic Learning.

In line with that vision, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today received a courtesy call from a delegation of National Geographic Learning led by its senior director for Asia, Michael Cahill, at the Premier of Sarawak’s Office at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here.

According to Sarawak Information Department news, the visit aimed to discuss collaboration in strengthening green education initiatives, STEM (science, techonology, engineering and mathematics), and climate change awareness in Sarawak.

According to Cahill, the meeting also focused on efforts to expand cooperation in education, innovation, and sustainable development.

“The National Geographic Learning is currently working with educational communities throughout Sarawak to enhance public awareness on climate change, wellbeing, and green education.

“Our mission is to bring the world into classrooms, homes, and communities across Sarawak, while also bringing Sarawak to the world stage,” he told reporters after the courtesy visit.

He added that they had also invited the Sarawak Premier to visit National Geographic Learning centres in the United States and China to share Sarawak’s success stories in green development and education with the international community.

According to him, National Geographic Learning has been implementing educational programmes in Sarawak since 2018 involving public schools and educational institutions, with emphasis on STEM and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The meeting also served as a platform to convey appreciation to the Sarawak Premier for the support extended, while discussing the potential to expand STEM and technology programmes in the State. Meanwhile, Abang Johari welcomed the initiative and expressed commitment to continue collaborating in making Sarawak a better State for future generations through green development and quality education.

Also present were Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Sarawak State Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and other dignitaries. — DayakDaily
