‘Ne saya tauk’: Premier tight-lipped on speculation that S’wak election could be held within 100 days

KUCHING, June 6: Speculation over the timing of Sarawak’s next State election continues to swirl, but Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg declined to offer any indication of when the polls might be called.

When approached by reporters after launching the Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair 2026 here today, Abang Johari remained tight-lipped on the subject matter.

“Ne saya tauk. Tanyak Dr Sim. Saya sik tauk. Tanyak Dr Sim saya sik tauk (How would I know? Ask Dr Sim. I don’t know. Ask Dr Sim, I don’t know),” he said when asked about recent remarks suggesting the election could be held within the next 100 days.

The question arose following remarks by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian on Thursday (June 4), when the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president suggested the next State election could be less than 100 days away and urged party members to remain vigilant and continue working hard, sparking renewed speculation over the timing of the polls.

The current term of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly is expected to expire in early 2027, though an election may be called before then. — DayakDaily
