SHAH ALAM - Pas has officially ended its political cooperation with Bersatu, the party’s president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced today following a special meeting of the Pas Central Working Committee.
In a statement, Hadi said the meeting had resolved to terminate the political cooperation with Bersatu, while exploring a new form of electoral pact to face the upcoming state elections and GE16.
The decision was made after upholding a resolution from the Majlis Syura Ulama meeting on June 2, which examined the policy, legal and interest considerations of Pas political cooperation based on the principle of ummah unity.
The committee also resolved to explore a new political understanding and electoral pact framework aimed at ummah unity and to welcome academics, professionals, political leaders and community activists to join Pas.
The announcement marks a dramatic end to a coalition partnership that had been showing signs of strain recently.
Tensions came to a head after Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Azmin Ali made a“don’t be deaf” remark directed at claims that Bersatu lacked election machinery, a statement that drew sharp criticism from Pas grassroots.
Selangor Pas Youth had earlier warned that the partnership was at a critical stage, citing breakdowns in coalition discipline and mutual respect.
