World Cup 2026: 10 Teams With the Best Away Kits
8 hours ago
We round up our picks of the best World Cup 2026 away kits, from the bold and colourful to the subtle and monochromatic.
The World Cup 2026 is ready for kick-off and we’re feeling the excitement from halfway across the world. We’ve waited four years for international football’s biggest stage to return and the 48 teams are ready to give it their all to fight for top prize. Well, we’re happy to leave the actual competition to the professional players and stick to what we can do…which is analyse jerseys. These shirts are more than just clothes on the players’ backs. They represent national identity, cultural pride, and football heritage.
While the home jersey is seen as the most symbolic with the team’s primary colours and crest, away kits are where things get truly interesting! Designers usually have a little more freedom when it comes to these second shirts, giving them the ability to play with shapes, colours, and even the crest. There is truly no better stage than the World Cup to get a glimpse of these symbols of national footballing pride and these ten below are ones that we’d wear off the pitch ourselves—listed in no particular order.
1. JAPANJapan’s off-white Away kit is a stark contrast from its blue Home jersey, sporting stripes of 12 different colours. The 11 vertical lines symbolise each of the players on the pitch and appear to fade in a rain-like effect as they run down the shirt. Meanwhile, a bolder stripe stretches down the center of the shirt in the colour of the Japanese flag’s red sun, representing the heart of the team.
2. SPAINSpain’s World Cup 2026 away kits have a more muted, vintage-leaning colour scheme compared to its Home kit. It takes inspiration from the country’s literary history, seen through a pyrite pattern all over the shirt that is a direct reference to the drawings found in classic books. The off-white hue is also an homage to the colour of a page, while the gold and burgundy details symbolise the nation’s colours.
3. GERMANYSporting a navy blue shade, the German World Cup 2026 away kits feature the diagonal chevrons from the first-choice jerseys, transformed into an overarching pattern. It also includes a subtle flag sign-off at the hem of the jersey—a tasteful tribute to the end of the 72-year partnership between Adidas and the German national team. Finally, the shirt’s colour palette takes cues from the different eras of the team’s history, including the classic blue quarter zips from 1954 and the training wear from the ‘90s.
4. FRANCEPastel shirts aren’t commonplace in the world of football, but France, in partnership with Nike, has managed to pull it off! The minty number is an ode to the Statue of Liberty, which France gifted to the United States as a symbol of the two nations’ cordial relationship. While any metallic detail would fit right into this away jersey, the copper was a handsome touch to go along with the tricolore banding.
5. BELGIUMFor the fourth year in a row, Belgium’s away kit pays homage to a global phenomenon or icon that has roots in the nation. It began with the sport of cycling, then Tomorrowland, then Tintin the cartoon, and now, it honours the surrealist artist René Magritte. Another pastel-hued shirt that has been executed perfectly, it is dotted with a pattern that blends football symbols with Magritte’s signature style.
6. SOUTH KOREAWith glow-in-the-dark logos, florals, and a purple hue, South Korea’s World Cup 2026 away kits have really done the unorthodox justice. The floral motif is seen as a symbol of tenacity and vitality as well as the blooming passion of South Korean football. Together with the shades of purple, this jersey will surely make a statement on and off the pitch.
7. COLOMBIAGreens, blues, and lime green take centre stage on the Colombian away jersey for this year’s FIFA World Cup. The pattern and colours are a joint celebration of the country’s biodiversity and geography. While the lighter shades are representative of the Caribbean sea, the darker colours are an ode to the Pacific Ocean.
8. IVORY COASTThe Ivory Coast, with Puma, have taken inspiration from its national flora and fauna for this year’s away kit to be showcased at the World Cup. There are elephants (extremely fitting, considering it’s the name of the team itself), baobab flowers, and palm trees, presented in a pattern that is intricate by the standards of football. It’s a little busy but we love the symbolism and lighter colour scheme.
9. CURAÇAOThis away kit already has a legion of fans of its own. Curaçao’s national team has unveiled this pale yellow jersey, an homage to island nation’s capital city Willemstad and the colourful buildings of the Punda and Otrobanda districts. Its pastel pink, turquoise, and orange accents make for the perfect colour combination too. Also worth mentioning is that Curaçao is the smallest nation to ever play at the World Cup, but the reception to its already-sold-out jersey is anything but miniscule.
10. NORWAYSure, it’s simple and maybe a little strange…but we think it works. Norway’s all-black jersey is one way to make a statement on the pitch. It is said to be inspired by the Viking warriors and channel their “fearless spirit”. Instead of going big and bold like the home shirt, the Norwegian away kit takes a subtle route with monochromatic Nordic knot patterns along its sides and a blacked out crest.
