PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed Malaysia's easing inflation rate after the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.9 per cent year-on-year in June 2026, down from the previous month's increase.
“Alhamdulilah, Alhamdulilah,” Anwar said briefly when approached by reporters at Masjid Dato Penghulu Menteri Sungei Ujong in the KLIA quarters on Friday.
Earlier on Friday, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that June's inflation was driven primarily by the transport group, although price increases in the sector moderated compared with the previous month.
According to DOSM, transport inflation slowed to 2.8 per cent in June from 3.8 per cent in May.
The moderation was mainly attributed to lower inflation in public transport services, which recorded a 6.5 per cent increase, as well as private transport equipment operation, which rose 3.1 per cent.
The latest figures indicate that overall consumer price growth continued to remain relatively contained, offering some relief amid ongoing cost-of-living concerns.
Anwar arrived at Masjid Dato Penghulu Menteri Sungei Ujong at about 12.50pm, where he was welcomed by local residents and mosque officials.
He later spent about 30 minutes having lunch before performing Friday prayers with more than 1,000 worshippers led by Imam Muhammad Haziq Khairul Anuar. - July 17, 2026
