Netflix’s 'The Map of Longing' Cast and Character Guide

The Map of Longing, is 2026 new romantic drama series streaming on Netflix, adapted from the novel by Alice Kellen by the same name. What makes this 6-part series quite an easy and entertaining watch is the convincing characters and also the actors who portray these characters brilliantly, making them all the more relatable. In a show dealing mostly with the confusion, fears, and concerns around falling in love as young adults, it is mandatory for the performers to do their best, and this Spanish drama is a success in that regard. It also has quite a few steamy scenes, which demands a strong on-screen chemistry, and it is safe to say that the lead actors are convincing as actual people genuinely giving in to their desires with each other for the first time. Here is a quick guide to the central characters in The Map of Longing, and the actors who have played the roles.

Alicia Falco as Greta Alvarez

The up-and-coming Spanish actress, Alicia Falco, plays the lead character, Greta Alvarez, in the Netflix series, and the spotlight is naturally on her. After making her debut in 2013 in Jordi Cardona’s La por (Fear in English), Falco eventually played her first lead role in Silvia Munt’s 2023 film Las Buenas Companias. She also appeared in the Netflix Spanish mystery series Esa Noche (That Night in English). Here, she plays the rather difficult role of Greta Alvarez, a young adult facing utter confusion and frustration with regards to how she should grieve the death of her beloved elder sister, Lucy. Greta is young and confident, but also uncertain and angsty at the same time. She has had many dreams and ambitions in life, most of which she has had to sacrifice for the sake of her terminally ill sister.

Now, she is faced with the task of doing something about these goals of hers, and yet being pulled back by the overwhelming grief that she feels in Lucy’s absence. Alicia Falco does a great job in the shoes of Greta, making her completely believable and worth rooting for. Despite Greta’s multiple hasty and perhaps unwise decisions, the audiences will remain on her side, mostly because of Falco’s style of portraying the layered character. It is also worth mentioning that Falco is equally good in scenes where Greta finally acknowledges the fears and frustrations that have haunted her following her sister’s death.

Pablo Alvarez as Will Tucker

The second-most important character in the series is Greta’s friend and eventual romantic interest, Will Tucker, and he has been portrayed by the Spanish actor Pablo Alvarez. Known for his charming looks and impressive physique, Alvarez mostly appeared in side roles throughout his acting career before finally landing the second-lead in The Map of Longing. He has earlier appeared in shows like Thoroughbred, La favorita, and Memento Mori. Will Tucker is an extremely private and reserved young man, who is clearly still affected by the trauma of his past, but he is unwilling to speak about it to anyone. Born in England and with a rather unusual name in Spain, Will feels like an outsider in most situations, and has a secretive brooding charm to him which naturally attracts someone as curious as Greta.

Pablo Alvarez plays the character to great effect, making Will look reserved and yet not like an unbelievably stoic man. Behind his tough and unbothered appearance is a man with a good heart and a ton of genuine feelings, and this is effectively portrayed by Alvarez’s acting. There is a gradual development in the character and his motivations, making the role quite challenging. Alvarez’s looks obviously play a significant role in making Will’s character more charming and likable. There is also a segment when we get to learn that Will was once very different, and this change between the two versions of the young man has been adequately put forward through Pablo Alvarez’s performance.

Georgina Amoros as Lucy Alvarez

Spanish actress Georgina Amoros arguably has the toughest role in The Map of Longing, as she has to play a dead character for the most part of the series. Amoros is a popular face from the Netflix thriller drama series Elite, where she played the role of Cayetana Grajera, and she has also appeared in other shows like Segunda Muerte and El Homenaje (The Tribute). Here, she plays the role of Greta’s elder sister, Lucy Alvarez, who is charming, bubbly, and overall the most likable character in the show. Lucy appears in flashbacks, and then mostly as part of Greta’s imagination, for she keeps seeing her elder sister long after her death from leukemia. Despite no longer being present in the mortal world, Lucy is the one who indirectly plays a crucial role in the plot, through a puzzle-game that she had designed for her younger sister before her death. This is possibly why the creators decided to keep her in the scenes physically, even though she is dead, for Lucy never leaves the plot or the central characters. Georgina Amoros does an exceptional job in the role, as she aptly embodies the figment of imagination who can talk and react only at certain times, and then disappears whenever anyone else catches Greta’s attention. Amoros, and the character of Lucy, is genuinely one of the main reasons behind The Map of Longing being an impressive show.

Mario de la Rosa and Laia Marull as the parents

Mario de la Rosa and Laia Marull play the roles of Greta’s father and mother, respectively, and both of them are established actors in the Spanish industry. De la Rosa played Suarez in the hit Netflix heist thriller series Money Heist, and also appeared in the teen drama series Olympo. Marull has appeared in small roles in shows like Charles, Emperor King and La Mesias (The Messiah). Although both these characters remain unnamed, and therefore we know them only as the parents of Greta and Lucy, they have their own stories that play out quite nicely, and eventually tie in with the main plot. While the series is mostly about Greta trying to deal with her grief, it also features the parents going through the same ordeal.

Ramon Barea as Grandpa

The most accomplished actor in the cast, Ramon Barea, plays the role of the loving and caring grandfather of Greta, who also goes unnamed throughout the series. An actor, director, and playwright who started his career in Spanish theatre, Barea has appeared in numerous films in his country, and is most widely remembered for Enrique Gabriel’s 1997 drama film En la puta calle. In The Map of Longing, he is the grandfather to Greta, and also her closest friend after the passing of Lucy. The old man is the only person who acknowledges how Greta has had to make a lot of sacrifices throughout her life because of her elder sister’s illness. Therefore, he is someone whom Greta can share everything with. He is the one who had helped Lucy build the puzzle box, showing how he has always been very close to his granddaughters. The scenes with Greta and her grandfather are genuinely heartwarming, and Barea is naturally the one who leads these scenes, being the established actor that he is.
