A 23-year-old man tragically lost his life after he was believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident along Jalan Kuala Sawah-Rantau in Kampung Belangkan, Rantau, Seremban.

The incident happened at around 6:40 PM on 19 July while the victim was putting up campaign flags for the Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN).

The suspect allegedly fled the scene

According to Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman, the accident involved a lorry that allegedly fled the scene shortly after the incident.

In a statement, he said initial investigations found that the victim was standing on the roadside while putting up party flags when the lorry, with an unidentified registration number, allegedly crashed into a signpost and hit him.

Efforts to track down the suspect are currently underway

Mohd Yatim said the victim was thrown onto the roadside following the collision and suffered injuries to his face and head before being pronounced dead at the scene.

He added that efforts to track down the lorry driver and locate witnesses are still ongoing, with the case being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
