Pre-dawn fire damages second floor of shop building at Lorong Sena 8 in Sibu

SIBU, Aug 7: A pre-dawn fire damaged the second floor of a shop building at Lorong Sena 8 here today.

In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 4.05am, and firefighters from the Sungai Merah station were deployed, with assistance from the Sibu Sentral station.

Upon arrival, it was noted that the blaze was confined to the second floor of the shop building.

Firefighters mounted an aggressive attack using two 100-foot hose lines with two water jets supplied by a fire engine pump, drawing water from a nearby fire hydrant. A ladder was also deployed to enable crews to access the upper floor and extinguish the flames.

The fire was brought under control at 4.39am, and the operation concluded at 5.20am after firefighters confirmed there were no remaining hotspots and the building was safe.

The department estimated that about 40 per cent of the building was damaged in the fire, with the affected area measuring approximately 40 by 40 square feet.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. — DayakDaily
