Scammers Pose As MOF Officers To Target STR And Sara Recipients, Ministry Warns

Scam syndicates are impersonating Ministry of Finance (MOF) officers via phone to obtain personal and banking details from STR and Sara recipients.

The ministry confirmed on its official Facebook page that scam syndicates are impersonating officers from Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara), using phone numbers designed to resemble the official hotlines.

Information being sought by the scammers includes MyKad numbers, bank account details, TAC and OTP codes, as well as banking passwords and PINs.

The Finance Ministry stated that it has never appointed any third party to run the official STR or Sara hotlines.

MOF will never request payment or personal details by phone.

Around the same time, a separate claim was circulating online – a viral poster promising every Malaysian aged 18 and above a one-off RM100 Sara payment, timed to National Day.

The Finance Ministry confirmed that this is fake, too.

In a social media post, it clarified that no official announcement had been made about any such payment.

The ministry’s advice: check MoF’s official channels before believing or sharing anything about Sara.
