The horrifying incident took place at around 7am yesterday (Aug 9), where CCTV captured the woman being engulfed in flames as the suspect fled the scene.
Witnesses’ account of eventsAccording to a witness to declined to be named, he told Sin Chew Daily that the victim was opening the lottery outlet when the suspect, who was believed to have been loitering nearby, suddenly rushed into the premise.

The witness added that the suspect paid no heed to the victim’s plea for mercy and proceeded to set her on fire before running away.
Another witness told the Chinese daily that he heard someone screaming at around 7.40am and saw the victim running to a nearby shop to seek help while her entire body was on fire.Those at the scene immediately used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before contacting the police and ambulance.
Police on the huntMeanwhile, Sentul acting district police chief Superintendent Jasni Zolpa said the victim suffered burns to 50% of her body and was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, where she’s reported to be in a critical but stable condition.
He added that initial investigations found that the victim had no known enemies and didn’t receive any threats prior to the incident.
The Kuala Lumpur contingent police forensic team has since gone to the scene and collected several DNA samples and other items to assist investigations.
Police are also tracking down the suspect as they continue investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means.
