Six Jours Movie Ending Explained And Full Story: What Pushes Malik To Save Anna And Frame Franck?

When a child is kidnapped, the situation becomes only worse with every passing second. In Juan Carlos Medina’s “Six Jours,” a similar situation is  shown to us – Malik, is a Police officer and an investigator who’s trying to locate Anna’s daughter, Chloe, who is kidnapped by a stranger (he is later revealed as Franck Revel). While Malik and his colleagues send fake money into the ransom bag, Franck catches them and threatens Anna to stay away from the law. As Anna follows all instructions and wait for Chloe with the money, the little girl accidentally hits her head while trying to escape from Franck’s clutches. Unfortunately, Malik crashes his car and by the time he recovers, Chloe dies in Anna’s arms. Eleven years after this tragedy, Malik meets Anna again, who slaps him on the face since he could not  investigate her daughter’s case of kidnapping. Malik has six days in his hands to find the perpetrator before the statute of limitation expires.

Spoilers Ahead

Who Kidnapped Chloe?

Chloe was kidnapped by a family man, Franck Revel, who was just looking forward to making some money. Franck always had problems with the bank since he was short on finances. The exact issue was not shown to us but it was clear that Franck was desperate for money, as he needed to provide funds for the heart transplant surgery of his daughter, Catherine. He needed funds because being on the waiting list for an organ transplant was not an easy job and the healthcare system often required him to butter the higher-ups. Franck specifically targeted Anna since she sold off the shares owned by her husband, Jerome, who was his client. The whole act was personal from the very beginning but Chloe’s death  broke Anna’s heart, which was not on Franck’s cards. While Franck manages to stay undercover for more than a decade, his actions gradually push Anna to the edge, which explains why she slapped Malik.

Why Can’t Malik And Anna Catch Franck?

In the present timeline, Franck is successful in getting Catherine a heart transplant and  more importantly, he has some major advantages that are working in his favor. He has maintained an invisible or faceless demeanor throughout the whole act, which is one of the things that has thrown off the police. The seaside road to Dunkirk has only a few CCTVs and the footage from car dashcams are not enough to spot Franck’s face or his car number plate. Even when he plants a white rose on the stick near Chloe’s accident (because he did not want her to die), he leaves no prints anywhere. Therefore, even if Malik senses that the flower is left by the kidnapper, he has no solid proof, which automatically dismisses the chances of the case being reopened. Franck is also playing well by the law – the biggest weapon in his arsenal is the statute of limitations, which makes the case unfit for evaluation once it expires. Since it’s just days away, Franck does not worry at all, which explains his nonchalant attitude even when he gets spotted by Anna and when she follows him to a coffee shop, Franck  throws her off and gets away in his car, leaving Malik biting his hands once again.

Why Does Malik Want To Hang Up The Gloves?

Malik knows how hard he is trying to catch Chloe’s kidnapper (he and Anna know nothing about Franck’s name and face by then). He fights with his station boss, Commissioner LeGoff, to reopen the case but in the end, he just fails to catch the perpetrator, despite the man being a few meters ahead of him. This loss is something which is way deeper than what anyone thinks, including LeGoff, who just congratulates Malik for trying his best. Malik naturally becomes damaged from within; all these years, the regret of not being able to save Chloe has eaten him alive. The sleepless nights, Anna’s heartbroken face and the failure of the Police seem way too much for Malik to handle. As an investigator, he questions the presence of law and order after Chloe’s killer walks freely once the statute of her case expires. Malik’s friend and colleague, Fred, tries his best to talk him out of it but nothing seems to work until a girl, Louise, also gets kidnapped in a similar manner.

What Pushes Anna To Kidnap Louise?

The pain of losing a child is something that should not be wished upon anyone – what Anna goes through everyday is an unimaginable amount of pain. She is desperate to catch her daughter’s kidnapper and that’s why she gives her everything, once she temporarily catches Franck inside the coffee shop. Although Franck did everything with absolute perfection, he makes a blunder when he forgets his umbrella inside the coffee shop. It eventually gives away the Jerome’s company logo printed on it – quite obviously, Anna rings up all the subcontractors who worked with her late husband and narrows her search down to Franck. When she reaches his house and witnesses Franck is living a happy life with his granddaughter, Louise, Anna cannot take it anymore. Later, Anna kidnaps Louise, calls Catherine and demands the exact ransom amount Franck once wanted from her.

Why Does The Police Suspect Franck?

Anna’s actions put Franck in a very questionable spot – he gets questioned relentlessly for a crime that he did not do. Well, technically he did, but just not with Louise, but with Chloe. Franck is desperate to prove himself innocent and that’s why when Anna calls him on the phone, he decides to follow her instructions like gospel. When  Anna makes Franck collect all the money in a bag and instructs him to throw it over a certain wall,  Malik catches him, and he gets treated like a primary suspect. Anna’s biggest ace in this is Franck’s disgraceful, financially unstable past and his relationship with his rich son-in-law – Commissioner Da Costa and his agents consider him the kidnapper since it matches with his motives. Things get more difficult for Franck once Malik recovers a tape recorder that has the former’s voice in it, instructing Louise. Franck gets arrested once the police discover his cigarette stubs from a phone booth that was used to make the ransom call (Anna got them from Franck’s house and planted them).

What Pushes Malik To Save Anna And Frame Franck?

Malik realizes that something is wrong with the whole situation since his intuition tells him that Franck is not  an accomplice to the kidnapper. After Malik gets the tape from the warehouse where Anna trapped Franck, he matches the two voices, and after his assistant matches another voice fragment with Anna’s, the seasoned police officer understands the whole plot. Anna gets exposed to Malik – it turns out that she kept Louise in her own home with the utmost care that she could provide. By the time Malik confronts her, he realizes that Anna is not a villain, but a heartbroken mother who is desperate to take revenge. Since the law cannot give her justice, she resorts to such a way. Malik makes the hardest and most controversial choice of his career when he lets Anna slip away and forces Franck to confess his crime in return for Louise. It might be debatable that Malik could have reported Anna’s crime to LeGoff since everyone is equal in the eyes of the law but he did his best. Anna had to live with only memories of Chloe and she would continue to do so as long as she lived.  The law was not fair to  her, was it? This is the same law that enforced the statute of limitation on unsolved cases, as if the victims never deserved justice. It might be said that justice delayed is justice denied – Malik had no other way to deliver justice to Anna or Chloe, who deserved it the most.
