KUCHING (Aug 29): The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) foiled an attempt to smuggle controlled and retail goods worth RM112,845.21 to Indonesia via Serikin on Friday.
The First Infantry Division (1 Div) of the Eastern Field Command said in a statement that its personnel spotted a one-tonne lorry travelling along an uncharted road towards the Malaysian-Indonesian border at about 2.15pm.
The lorry was intercepted about 700 metres from the border and was found to be driven by a local man.
“The lorry was carrying controlled and retail goods, such as sugar, cooking oil, alcoholic and powdered beverages, instant noodles, and biscuits,” it said.
The suspect and seized items were subsequently handed over to the Bau district police headquarters for further action.
