Traders need to ensure delicious food sold at reasonable prices - Raja Perlis

KANGAR - Traders in Perlis need to ensure that their food is sold at reasonable prices in an effort to continue to attract tourists to choose the state as a tourist destination, thus boosting the state's economy.

The Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail said traders need to provide the best service to tourists through such prices, besides maintaining the quality of their food so that it is always delicious so that they can potentially maintain their respective businesses continuously.

"Food must be served deliciously and at reasonable prices...I always tell the Yang Amat Berhormat Menteri Besar (Perlis) and other esteemed Yang Berhormat to advise our traders not to raise prices that are unreasonable.

"I know that business people also want to make a profit, but let the prices be reasonable,” said His Royal Highness when officiating the Kuala Perlis International Water Festival 2026 at Kampung Wai Square, Kuala Perlis near here last night.

Also present was Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.

Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the water festival has its own historical value and heritage, the tradition of boat racing and the life of the fishing community as well as the people's relationship with the river and sea are part of Kuala Perlis' identity that should be preserved and passed on to future generations.

"I welcome the efforts to elevate this festival to the international level. I hope it continues to grow as an international tourism, sports and heritage event without losing the roots of tradition and identity of the local community,” said the ruler.

He hopes that the water festival will also be a platform to introduce food, crafts, cultural arts and products of the Perlis community to visitors from home and abroad, with all the natural treasures, history, culture and uniqueness of the Perlis community to be highlighted wisely so that it becomes the strength and identity of the state's tourism.

Meanwhile, the Raja of Perlis hopes that tourism development in Kuala Perlis can provide direct economic benefits to the people, especially through business opportunities, increased income and the involvement of entrepreneurs and the local community.

"I also hope that aspects of cleanliness, safety and environmental sustainability will always be given attention. The rivers, estuaries and waters of Kuala Perlis are shared treasures that need to be protected so that they remain beautiful and sustainable,” said the ruler.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the people should continue to be the owners, movers and beneficiaries of the state's tourism development.

The organisation of the water festival this year has two phases, the first phase taking place yesterday until tomorrow while the second phase is from Sept 18 to Sept 20. - BERNAMA
