KLIA Cuts E-Hailing Entry Fee to a Flat RM2 at Both Terminals

KLIA has standardized its e-hailing pickup entry fee at RM2 for both terminals, while new operational measures have significantly improved the flow of vehicles and passengers.

Passengers using e-hailing services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) are now paying less for pickups, with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) introducing a standardized RM2 entry fee at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 effective September 16.

The revised fee, inclusive of tax, represents a reduction from the previous RM3 charge at Terminal 1 and RM2.16 at Terminal 2, giving passengers and e-hailing operators a single rate regardless of which terminal they use.

KLIA passenger experience senior general manager Abdul Hasman Abdul Muhimin said the change was intended to make the pickup process more consistent and straightforward.

“The standardization is aimed at providing greater consistency and clarity for passengers and e-hailing operators, while supporting a more streamlined pickup experience across both terminals,” MAHB said in a statement.

The move comes as the airport continues to improve how e-hailing traffic is managed, particularly following enhancements introduced at Terminal 1 in August. The changes appear to have produced a significant improvement in how quickly drivers complete pickups and leave the airport.

According to MAHB, approximately 99% of e-hailing drivers now complete their passenger pickups and exit within the allocated 10-minute grace period, compared with just 49% previously.

At the same time, the number of vehicles entering the designated pickup lanes each day has fallen by 13.5%, from 8,124 to 7,024.

MAHB said the reduction reflects better control of e-hailing operations, including less unauthorized activity, unnecessary circulation by vehicles, and prolonged idling. At the same time, the airport says the changes have maintained smooth access for legitimate passenger pickups.

For passengers, the most immediately noticeable change is the RM2 charge, which removes the previous difference between the two terminals and brings KLIA’s e-hailing pickup fee into line across the airport.

For drivers, the improved traffic flow and higher proportion of pickups completed within the 10-minute grace period should also mean less time spent waiting or circulating around the airport. With KLIA handling large volumes of arriving passengers and e-hailing vehicles every day, even relatively small improvements in the way pickup lanes operate can have a noticeable effect on congestion.

The combination of a lower, standardized fee, and tighter operational controls represents a broader effort by MAHB to make the increasingly important e-hailing component of KLIA’s ground transport system more predictable for both passengers and drivers.
