'Mobland' Season 2 Episode 4 Trailer Breakdown
1 day ago
[Spoiler Alert] In the ending of MobLand Season 2 episode 3, Frankie returned Bella to Kevin and then detonated an explosive device in the main office at the Harrigan yard, thereby killing Dog. How did things come to that? For starters, Frankie dropped off Zosia at a random location so that she could convey the message to the Harrigans that he wanted to sit down for a meeting with Conrad, Kevin, and Harry. Harry was of the opinion that they should accept the proposal, because Bella’s life was on the line. When Harry passed on this information to Conrad, it seemed like Conrad was ready to bury the hatchet with Kevin and show up at the yard. But Harry advised Conrad to take this one out because it was too risky. On Donnie’s order, Seraphina asked Harry to include her in the meeting. During that conversation, she let slip the fact that she knew Frankie’s name; something that was a mystery to Harry and the Harrigans until Seraphina name-dropped him. Harry didn’t raise an alarm, and allowed Seraphina to be present at the meeting (while telling Zosia to do some background research on Frankie). Frankie showed up at the yard with just his scooter and his helmet. He waltzed into Kevin’s office, put his helmet underneath the desk, and essentially asked them to remove Conrad and Maeve from the proverbial throne and let him run things. Harry rejected the offer and essentially ordered Frankie to return Bella. Frankie obliged and exited the yard on his scooter. The only thing he left behind was his helmet. So, when Harry was grilling Seraphina in the parking lot about how she knew Frankie’s name, and Dog was closing up the office, the explosive in the helmet went off, killing Dog. Based on the trailer for episode 4, what can we expect to see next week? Let’s find out.
The first thing that we see in the teaser is Harry sitting in Conrad’s office and telling him that the war with Kat started the day he refused to join hands with her. Yeah, Harry had made a deal with Kat that he’d come work with her if she saved Seraphina and Brendan from Jaime’s clutches. By the time Kat got in touch with Jaime, Brendan had been killed, though Seraphina was still alive. Kat had done her best to help Harry and the Harrigans, but apparently that wasn’t enough for Harry, and he chose to turn his back on Kat, even though Kat warned him that the consequences of doing so would be grave. Up until that point, MobLand kept insinuating that Harry was going to betray the Harrigans and sit on the throne of North London himself, because he was done doing the Harrigans’ bidding. So, it was kind of a bummer to see Harry continue to be the fixer for the Harrigans. I suppose, with episode 4, the show is again forcing me to cast suspicion on Harry. I mean, this time Conrad is directly accusing Harry of secretly batting for Kat. I think that when Harry exits the Harrigan household, Conrad yells at him and tells him to pick a side. I am not falling for that again. The writers are clearly using Conrad’s deteriorating mental health to fuel this subplot, but I feel that Harry is too loyal to betray the Harrigans. If the show runs for, let’s say, five more seasons, then I can see Harry scripting the downfall of the Harrigans and planting himself on the throne of North London. Until then, he will continue to protect the Harrigans, no matter what Conrad says.
There are some context-less shots of Harry wearing a mask, Kevin standing in the kitchen, someone tying a noose to a tree, and Maeve having a conversation with someone. I don’t know what’s up with Harry, Kevin, and Maeve, but I do find the noose to be interesting. The noose has been featured in the title sequence of Season 2, and it seems to be strung up in front of the Harrigan household. In the era of firearms, killing someone by hanging them seems personal. Right now, the person who’s explicitly betraying the Harrigans is Seraphina. We see Seraphina talking to someone and telling them that the Harrigans are a sinking ship; which means that the explosion at the yard hasn’t really changed her heart. I think her jewelry shop gets hit, which is pretty random; at the same time, it might have been orchestrated by Harry to get a reaction out of Seraphina, thereby confirming his suspicions that she is indeed working for Kat. Do I think that Harry is going to hang Seraphina from a tree in the Cotswolds? No, the writers are not brave enough to do that; not yet at least. I don’t think the noose is supposed to be used for anything practical; I feel that it’s a warning for the Harrigans from Frankie or Donnie. It’s to show that the Cotswolds aren’t as safe as the Harrigans think it is. Donnie infiltrated the Falkland Arms, and that’s not too far away from the Harrigan household. So, yeah, I feel that that noose will be used to intimidate the Harrigans, especially Conrad.
We see Harry seemingly talking to Finch on the phone, who is at the wreckage of the yard. For some reason, Finch says that it’s a classic case of a gas leak. If Finch is saying that to Harry, it’s odd, because Harry clearly knows that that’s Frankie’s handiwork. But since that shot of Finch at the yard is followed by a scene where Kavanagh asks her team what Finch is doing all by himself at the yard, I have a feeling that Finch is telling Kavanagh that a gas leak caused the explosion over there. Now, why would Finch say something like that? I guess that if the police learns that the massive explosion is the consequence of a war that’s raging between Kat and the Harrigans, Kavanagh will tell the police to keep an eye on both parties, thereby disallowing the Harrigans from making a move against Kat and her crew. And Harry probably doesn’t want that. Hence, he is using Finch to convince the police that the explosion is the result of an accident and not an explosive going off. However, by doing so, I suppose Finch has painted a target on his back. Kavanagh has been doing a mole hunt to see who has been leaking confidential details to the Harrigans. By going to the yard all by himself, and possibly tampering with the evidence, it’s possible that he has made sure that Kavanagh will either fire him from the squad or transfer him somewhere else. Who knows? Maybe Finch has purposefully messed it up to get out of Harry’s clutches.
We see a telephonic conversation between Maeve and Eddie. Maeve is at home but Eddie is on a plane, and he wants to know what she is cooking. Maeve simply says “all in good time.” So, after the attack on his crib, Eddie went running to Maeve and asked for her assistance. Maeve brought Eddie to a swanky apartment that Conrad used to frequent, and told Eddie to lay low there. But she ordered him to not bring Gina in there. Eddie was unable to comply and Maeve caught him red-handed with her. Eddie essentially said that he and Gina were inseparable. So, Maeve advised him to take Gina and go away to Ireland as that’ll put him out of the reach of everyone that’s trying to attack the Harrigans. The Harrigans’ haters got to the Harrigans in Antwerp. So, why would Ireland be unreachable? I don’t know. Also, I assumed that when Maeve told Eddie to go away to Ireland, she was being sarcastic. But now she’s actually sending Eddie to Ireland? There’s Harry who wants the Harrigans to close ranks so that they fight together as a unit, and then there’s Maeve who is unintentionally making it easier for Kat to tear the Harrigans apart. Maeve makes it seem like she has some grand plan, but I don’t think she does. She’s just going with the flow and she’s possibly going to make everything worse for her own family. Speaking of acting irrationally, we see Conrad shooting at someone at a container port of sorts during the closing moments of the teaser. Since that’s preceded by shots of Frankie and someone driving away from what looks like the same container port, the teaser wants us to believe that there’s going to be a confrontation between Conrad and Frankie, given how the former was missing from the meeting at the yard. It’s possible that Conrad will try to kill Frankie and bring this nonsense to an end, but Frankie is going to escape and make the Harrigans’ life a living hell. It’s possible that Conrad is shooting at some of his newer business partners, who he had contacted to strengthen his empire. Or it’s possible that he’s shooting at nothing because he has gone mad. What do you think Conrad is doing during that ballistic sequence? Please, feel free to let me know in the comments section below.
