Anna Pigeon Ending Explained And Finale Recap

The worst part about having a shrewd enemy is probably the way they never play by the rules. In the finale episode of “Anna Pigeon,” our beloved Glacier National Park Ranger, Anna, is rediscovering Jeremiah Paulson’s evil nature. After Geoff admits that it is Jeremiah’s plan of poisoning the river water so the land around it loses real estate value, Anna realizes that Paulson needs to be stopped. Looking at Geoff’s dog, Buddy’s deteriorated condition, Anna finally loses her patience and prints out posters, labeling Jeremiah as a murderer. In the meantime, Anna gets summoned by the Attorney who is overseeing Katie’s murder case. She also agrees to testify that it was JP who murdered Katie – he should be sent to jail at all costs because of his crime. After Anna sticks posters against Jeremiah in the chamber, Paulson notices them and engages in a public argument with the Ranger.

Spoilers Ahead

Why Is Jeremiah Trying To Kill Anna?

Anna is Jeremiah’s sworn enemy, the only Ranger in the Glacier National Park who has the guts to stand up to him. Ever since Jeremiah has seen Anna getting involved in everything that has to do with his schemes, he has grown vengeful. This is also a headache for Jeremiah that Anna is one of the lead witnesses in the murder case against his nephew JP. If Anna ends up testifying in the court, it will not just send JP to prison for murdering Kay, but also change how the Paulson family operates. After Jeremiah gets a little intel on Anna’s family and Zach’s murder, he tries to use it as a tool to lure Pigeon into obeying him. He thinks that Anna will agree to stay away from testifying if Jeremiah promises her information on her husband’s death. However, Jeremiah, as always, underestimated Anna because the Park Ranger has moved on from her past pretty quick. For Anna, delivering justice to Kay is more important than digging up the past. Jeremiah decides to hunt Anna down after she openly refuses to withdraw from testifying against JP.

Why Did Dawson Break His Own Leg?

Dawson’s family was abducted by Jeremiah – he was threatened to carry out a secret mission in favor of the Paulsons. Since Dawson could not afford to lose his own family, he planned to take out Anna Pigeon by making her think that he needed help. This is why Danny purposely broke his leg with the hammer and made it seem to the Glacier National Park Rangers that he was in danger. Anna has always been a hard worker and she could never afford to lose a life – when she gets the distress call from Dawson, she rushes in without a second thought. Dawson’s plan finally works when he ties a tracker on her ankle, takes Anna’s backpack and gun away, leaving her to freeze in the extremely chilly weather. When Anna frees herself and tries to run after Dawson, he does his best to stop her from coming after him in order to protect his family from Jeremiah. However, his plan remains unfulfilled in the end as Anna survives the night inside a sleeping bag and stays vigilant enough to run when Jeremiah’s friends start to hunt her down.

How Do Frederick And Jesse Know That Anna Is In Danger?

Anna’s location has been cut off the moment her backpack and mobile get taken away by Dawson. Unfortunately, she has no means to let the Glacier National Park Rangers know that she is in danger because her emergency items are all inside the backpack. While Anna struggles to make it back home in one piece and avoid pulling off an “Into The Wild,” Frederick and Jesse pull up to the station, unaware  of the condition of their friend. However, once they notice that Anna’s horse, Ace, is back to the Station and someone has cut off his reins, they sense that something is off. Apart from Jesse and Frederick, even Zoey knows that unless Anna is in grave danger, she will never abandon Ace like that. This forces everyone to look for Anna in the forest; whoever cut those reigns, must have wanted Anna to survive Jeremiah’s trap!

Did Anna Really Kill Zach?

When Anna faces Jeremiah, he keeps messing with her memories because the night Zach died, Pigeon was heavily drunk. Jeremiah targets Anna’s weakness and constantly triggers her traumatic past to rebuild her broken memories in his own way. Although he tries to guilt trip Anna by manipulating her into thinking that she killed Zach, it ultimately  does not work. Anna keeps thinking about that night and because of Jeremiah’s misdirection, she initially thinks that the knife that was used to stab Zach was actually held by her. However, Anna’s memory flashbacks reveal that she may have held the knife upon discovering the bloody knife on Zach’s body. Actually, Anna was too drunk to do anything at night. There was a mysterious woman in a red coat who kissed Zach during the party – this was the exact reason for Anna’s heated argument with her husband. Later, the same woman picks up a bloody knife and hands it to Anna because the latter was being framed for Zach’s murder.

What Happens To Anna And Jeremiah In The End?

Jeremiah’s greatest mistake has always been underestimating Anna and her resourceful nature. Just when Jeremiah thinks that he has Anna cornered, he forgets that this is the same person who has killed one of his friends and left another one extremely injured, that too, with the same bear traps that have been laid to catch her. Although he puts Anna at gunpoint, makes her toss her gun and tries to warp her mind with the most twisted theories about Zach’s death, Jeremiah’s plan ultimately falls apart. Anna fatally shoots Jeremiah with a backup revolver when the latter tries to kill her. When Frederick arrives, he embraces Anna while comforting her because he knows that she is in shock. Meanwhile, Bethany lies to the court about her involvement with Anna’s fall in the cave and completely changes the narrative. She is later seen entering Jeremiah’s house and wondering how it feels to be back home. Anna also makes up with Jesse; she gets greeted by Zoey and Frieda once she gets back to the station. While this seems like a happy ending where Anna gets to live a lovely life with Piedmont, things are not so simple. The mysterious woman, who wore the red blazer at the party, arrives at Molly’s office to meet her – this may be the tip of the iceberg. Anna’s job is not over yet; she needs to find out what Bethany wants to do with Jeremiah’s throne. Apart from that, Anna still needs to figure out who wanted to kill Zach and frame her for the murder. Let’s hope the second season answers some of our queries, if not all of them!
