Lupin Season 4 Episode 2 Recap: Does Assane Prove His Innocence To The Cops?

In the Episode 2 of the fourth season of “Lupin,” Assane has to break out of prison because of the copycat Lupin’s challenge. Since he has not seen his friend, Ben, for long, he decides to pay his shop a visit – he also wants to access his own lair and gear up for the night. However, Assane gets heartbroken to discover that Ben is dating his former lover and Raoul’s mother, Claire. Even though Assane is heartbroken, he decides to swallow his grief, give Ben a nice hug and start working together to stop the Eiffel Tower heist by hook or crook. In the meantime, Assane’s cop friend Guerdia is desperately looking for Assane as the cops still don’t know anything about a copycat in action. After Sofia is left unconscious, Guerdia is ready to break all the rules and search every place without a warrant unless he is catching Assane alive.

What Makes Guerdia Approach Raoul?

Guerdia does not believe that Assane is the new Lupin but he still pursues him following the prison break. He knows that his job is most likely on the line unless he finds the real thief and the Commissioner wants him to wrap up very soon. Guerdia knows that the new Lupin has created an ugly stir when the thief went through the DNA database of the Interpol for some reason. Unless he can arrest the thief and find who tried to kill Sofia, Guerdia’s job is in danger. He decided to talk to Raoul and search his apartment because he thinks that it’s normal for criminals to pay their family members a visit as soon as they get out of prison. Even though his task force searches every corner of Raoul’s apartment, they cannot find Assane because he is not that dumb to leave a single trace.

Why Does Raoul Get Frustrated?

The last thing that Raoul wants is getting far away from his father, Assane. That’s the only reason why he pays Ben’s shop a visit because he knows that it’s a popular hideout of the original Lupin. Even though Raoul finds Assane and Ben in the shop, he fails to understand why his own father is not ready to have a conversation with him. Assane does not tell Raoul that the copycat thief is already hacking into the shop CCTVs and keeping a watch on everything that has been going on. He wants Raoul to be safe and in order to do that, he requests him to leave the shop. Unfortunately, Raoul gets heartbroken because he does not understand that there are such bigger things at play. He lashes out at his father before storming out of the shop, unaware of the fact that Assane just wants the best for him.

Who Is The Copycat Thief?

The copycat thief is none other than Adele Kapoor, an Indian origin thief who seems to be a big fan of Lupin. Years ago, she was the one who committed a theft in London and made it to the headlines for her innovative techniques. However, the authorities could not catch Adele because she apparently died when her apartment went out in flames. But clearly, Adele is very much alive and ever since she has faked her death, she has ardently studied the methods of Assane. Adele does not want to be another thief in the market but the new Lupin, which explains why she has accurately followed all of Assane’s previous robberies. Even though Assane does not like it at all, he cannot help but be a fan of Adele because of her flawless robbing techniques.

How Does Guerdia Find Assane’s Location?

When Assane was the Lupin, he was a big fan of causing distractions to confuse the police and this is exactly what Adele has adopted from him. She knows that Guerdia has a weak spot for Sofia and ever since the injured cop has been lying unconscious on the hospital bed, he has never missed paying a visit. Since Adele is aware of Guerdia’s routine, she deliberately sets him up by writing down the address of an avenue on the bedside postcard to make it seem that Lupin wants to meet him. After Assane comes chasing to Adele’s location, she draws him out and manipulates him into running to that street. This makes Guerdia think that it was Assane all along and he was the one who left the postcard in Sofia’s room. It also makes Guerdia lose his patience because he thinks that it was Lupin who almost killed Sofia that day. As always, Assane pleads with Guerdia to believe in him and escapes right under his nose. 

Why Does Assane Give Up On Guarding The Ruby?

A friend in need is a friend in deed and Assane proves it right away when it comes to saving his mates. Adele is always a step ahead; that’s why, when she found out that Assane is going to take Ben’s help in taking the ruby away, she invited Claire to the Eiffel Tower. As Claire calls Ben, just before the ruby is being unveiled, it forces Ben to rush to the entrance to guide her. Assane also urges Ben to do so as he does not want Claire to discover what the two of them are really up to. When Adele hacks into the elevator mainframe and speeds up the cable, it sends Claire and Ben in panic. Assane finally rushes out of the exhibition room, leaving the ruby behind because he prioritizes his friends’ lives over a gemstone. While he saves Ben and Claire, Adele ultimately gets away with the ruby.

How Does Assane Prove His Innocence To The Cops?

Although Adele runs away with the ruby, she ultimately fails to frame Assane for it. Days ago, Assane had already visited the top floor of the Eiffel tower, where the jewel was kept all along, and planted sensor-activated Polaroid cameras within the vicinity of the gemstone. When the lights went out, the strobes were nothing but flashes from the polaroid camera. Unfortunately, those analogue cameras cannot be hacked by Adele and her photos get out pretty quickly. After Guerdia confronts Assane, he proves his alibi and reclaims his innocence with the help of Adele’s photos. But, has Assane really outshined Adele? It turns out that Adele knows every technique of Lupin and she is working for none other than Assane’s friend, Juliette. This is definitely one of the most shocking twists of Assane’s life and he is set to be devastated once he finds out about this.
