1st CKD GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV Rolls Off EPMB Line

The much-anticipated GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV is one step closer to its official Malaysian commercial debut, following the successful rollout of its first locally assembled (CKD) unit from EP Manufacturing Bhd.’s (EPMB) production facility in Melaka.

Scheduled to officially launch this November, the ORA 5 touches down as GWM Malaysia marks its fourth anniversary after its debut at KLIMS 2026. Bookings have been open nationwide since 5 October 2026, with indicative pricing estimated at below RM115,000.

The CKD rollout delivers on the brand’s local assembly commitments announced earlier at the Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2026, expanding GWM’s Malaysian-assembled portfolio alongside the Haval H6 HEV as well as the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV and HEV.

Positioned under the product mantra “More Than You Expect,” the ORA 5 Hi2 HEV packages expressive crossover styling with GWM’s intelligent dedicated hybrid architecture:

On the aesthetic and design front, the crossover secured the Design of the Year award at the 2025 London Design Awards—making it the first production car globally to take the distinction—alongside the Best Interior Design Award (Family Car) at TADA 2026 for its cabin packaging and practicality.

Anchoring Malaysia as a Regional Right-Hand-Drive Export Base

The assembly milestone at EPMB Melaka underscores the expanding role of Malaysia within GWM’s broader ASEAN production and supply chain strategy.

To date, more than 10,000 GWM vehicles have been assembled locally at the Melaka facility. Significantly, over 1,100 units of the Malaysian-assembled WEY G9 have already been exported to neighboring right-hand-drive and regional markets, including Thailand and Indonesia.

Speaking on the rollout, Stan Li Hao, Managing Director of Commercial Operations at GWM Malaysia, noted that the model brings together performance, economy, and everyday practicality in a compact footprint. Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, emphasized that sustained local assembly remains core to GWM’s four-pillar commitment: Locally Built, Locally Operated, Locally Cultivated, and Supply Chain Integrated.
