Eternally Yours Episode 4 Recap

In Episode 4 of “Eternally Yours,” Liz seems to be focusing on her job at the university. Her lectures on History lessons are enjoyable for the students because of how elusive they are. Even though the students don’t know, Liz was there, centuries ago and she has been a witness to all major historical events. Naturally, her records are more insightful than authors who usually take references, thus diluting many details and unheard point of view. Looking at how efficient Liz is, her senior, Dr. Glen praises her and reveals that he is thinking about promoting her to a full-time Professor’s role. Since this is extremely honorable for Liz, she decides to invite Dr. Glen and his family to her coven since it’s Halloween.

Spoilers Ahead

Why Isn’t Halloween Favorable For The Coven?

Before the Halloween evening even comes, Charles seems to be very upset about the whole lot of appearances throughout the night. He thinks that the vampire culture should never be adapted into costumes because the plastic fangs and capes are pathetic to look at. Jesse claims that he does not like how some people dress up as comic nurse characters because in case someone almost loses their life, they can never receive medical treatment from them. Apart from all these, the coven really hates Halloween as theoretically, it becomes a great time for the vampires sworn enemies, the werewolves. Vampires and werewolves have always been at each other’s necks (pun intended) for centuries. Charles and Jesse think that no vampire should ever step out on a Halloween night; in case a werewolf catches them, it will leave dismembered body parts all over and endanger the coven.

Why Do Charles, Jesse And Emma Suspect Mackenzie?

While Charles and Max discuss Halloween, Jesse and Phyllis’s son, Mort, surprises everyone by revealing that he is going on a date with his school sweetheart, Mackenzie. Although this seems a good thing because children should always enjoy Halloween to their fullest, Jesse cannot wrap his head around the fact that Mackenzie, the most popular kid in school, is interested in a quiet kid like Mort. Jesse thinks  this way because Mackenzie has dated some of the most muscular guys, including school team Quarterbacks; so, why should she be interested in a fat guy like Mort? The next thing that comes in the adult’s minds is the possibility that Mackenzie is trying to get to Henry through Mort, which will be extremely devastating for the guy. The last thing that sends Jesse and Emma’s mind into a spiral is the slight possibility of Mackenzie being a werewolf but unless they meet her, there’s no way to prove it.

How Does Max Almost Put The Coven At Risk?

For years, the ancient relic, the Wolfsbane Chalice has been in the coven; it’s a reliable magical object which protects a housing from a werewolf intrusion. Decades ago, Charles and Liz escaped a werewolf invasion by some inches; one of the dying elder vampires gave them the idea of getting the Wolfsbane Chalice for their own safety. However, while everyone is busy talking about Halloween, Max, unbeknownst to the fact that the Wolfsbane Chalice is actually a protection relic, takes it away. Max uses it as a vessel to pour some candies in it and places it in front of the door of the coven, so that the children can easily get them without trick or treating. By the time Max tells it to Jesse and Emma, they find that the Wolfsbane Chalice is already invisible and think that someone has taken it away along with the candies. This puts Jesse in panic mode as without the relic, werewolves can unleash their attack anytime.

What Destroys Mackenzie’s First Impression Of Mort’s Family?

Although Max is the one who is panicking, Jesse and Emma fuel it further by making baseless claims about Mackenzie being the werewolf. The entire time Mackenzie is there, Emma closely watches her every move with Mort, even when the two of them are watching a movie. Later, Jesse ups the ante by letting Mackenzie go through the Scorch Trials for the werewolves. Even though Mackenzie’s father happens to be a costume designer, Emma still suspects that the hair around her face is real, just like a werewolf. Amid all this, Jesse and Emma drive Mackenzie out of the house, thinking that she is just there to infiltrate the coven. After Mackenzie is driven out and they all get to know that Phyllis has kept the Wolfsbane Chalice with her after the candies were gone, Jesse feels embarrassed. Instead of saving the day, when Jesse, Emma, and Max visit Mackenzie’s home, they fail to make a proper apology.

How Does Charles Make It Up To Glen For Liz’s Promotion?

When Glen comes into the coven with his wife, Susan, their Bram Stoker tribute instantly pisses off Charles. Glen constantly keeps copying mannerisms and lines from “Dracula” and Charles fails to ignore it. Without thinking about Liz’s promotion, Charles loses his temper and gets into a verbal altercation with Glen when the latter claims that the Prussians were great people. Things get far worse when Charles ignores Liz’s telepathic warning and fights with Glen regarding Frederick The Great, almost proving that he was still living in that era (which is actually true). After Glen walks out with Susan and Liz throws a very obvious tantrum as Charles did not prioritize her promotion, the coven turns awfully silent. When Charles realizes his mistake, he flies out as a bat, leads Glen and Susan to the house before formally apologizing to them. Even though Charles made a terrible mistake, he proves himself as a loving husband who knows how to ultimately save the day.

Is It The Safest Halloween For The Coven?

While all seems safe since Phyllis has found the Wolfsbane Chalice, it turns out later that she has made the blunder of a lifetime. Phyllis has accidentally broken the top part of the relic while trying to wash it off in the dishwasher after using it as a cocktail glass. This is far worse than just misplacing it because there’s still a chance of finding items that are lost. Once Jesse and Max find it out, they instantly panic because even if Halloween is over, werewolves can still attack their coven. This is the relic that Charles and Liz have been keeping with them for centuries. It is definitely a bad omen for the entire household and a risk. The doubt regarding Mackenzie may not be fully over because she has badmouthed the entire family to Mort and when Jesse went to apologize, he never saw what her father looked like. Without the Wolfsbane Chalice, Max needs to learn some good fighting skills if he wants to go ham against the werewolves. Considering the stakes, the current crisis needs a fix before something bad happens inside Charles and Liz’s coven.
