Fraud Case Against Javed Sheikh Dropped by Rawalpindi Police

A fraud case against actor Javed Sheikh and five others has been dropped by the Rawat Police due to jurisdictional issues, as the events in question transpired in Karachi.

Speaking to Dawn, Rawat SHO Chaudhry Zulfikar explained that the case was initially registered on court orders under Section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. During the investigation, it was discovered that the transaction took place in Karachi, falling outside the Rawat Police’s jurisdiction. As a result, a discharge report for the case was prepared.

On June 6, the Rawat Police registered a fraud case against Sheikh, Jahanzeb Alam, Jamal Khan, Rana Zahid, Azhar Hussain, and Sameer Jadoon. The charges alleged that the group deceived a couple into investing Rs5 million but failed to deliver the promised returns. Javed Sheikh was the brand ambassador for the company involved.

The case was filed following orders from an additional district and sessions judge, and the accused were summoned by the police for investigation. The complainant, Amjad Mahmood, claimed that the group promised him and his spouse, Iram Amjad, a seven percent monthly profit, urging them to invest their money.

Mahmood stated in the police report that he was denied his money, and alleged that Alam and Khan continuously threatened him. He claimed that they used weapons to intimidate him and his wife.

SHO Zulfikar clarified that the company’s fraudulent activities, which involved using Sheikh’s name, did not necessarily implicate the actor himself in the scam.

The Rawat Police’s decision to drop the case due to jurisdiction highlights the importance of proper venue in legal proceedings. The involved parties may need to pursue the matter through the appropriate channels in Karachi where the alleged transaction occurred.

This development underscores the complexity of jurisdictional issues in legal cases, particularly in instances where the alleged criminal activities span different regions.
