Peter Philips on how to nail your holiday makeup with Dior Beauty

Got a Christmas or New Year’s bash coming up soon? We’ve spoken with Dior Beauty’s Peter Philips to glean all the makeup inspiration you need this season.

Timeless, vibrant, and glittering—these are three words that exemplify Dior Beauty’s 2024 Holiday Look Collection. Designed by Peter Philips, the Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, the idea behind this beauty series was to glorify the playfulness of the sparkles and the richness of the Dior Beauty pigments in a cinematic and festive context. “I applied our Iconic Forever Liquid Sequin lipsticks in combination with our Holiday 2024 makeup collection and with some of our timeless eyeshadow palettes from our permanent Dior range,” he shares. The result is exquisite, capturing the glamour and opulence of the festive season in five wearable looks—each of which highlights the iconic Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Sequin lipsticks. 

The formulation of the lipstick is novel, boasting a matte-to-shimmer texture, effortlessly adding a touch of glamour to any look with a purse of the lips. There is a bit of a technique to it, so we’ve consulted Philips himself for the details. “The best way to apply the Forever Liquid Sequin lipstick is as the last step in your face makeup,” he asserts. “I like to scrub and hydrate the lips at the beginning of the makeup routine so the lips can rest and get moisturised whilst I apply the base and do the eyes, brows and blush.”

“Then, I take off the excess moisturiser and apply the Forever Liquid Sequin lipstick on a dry lip,” Philips continues. “I let the product set for about two or three minutes (sometimes I use a little fan to speed up the process) and once the product is dry it’s important to pinch your lips together in a strong controlled quick way. After pinching your lips the sequin will appear on the surface of your matte lipstick base to sparkle in full glory.”

“Overall, I wanted to glorify the playfulness of the sparkles and the richness of our pigments, in a cinematic and festive context,” Philips explains. “For some looks in this series, I opted for exciting red combinations to capture that holiday spirit. For others, I combined warm and cold tones in one look and I even went a bit vintage, inspired by the great Serge Lutens and the iconic Tyen, both masters of their craft and forever linked with the house of Dior.”
