Android Auto addresses 5GHz Wi-Fi notification as Google investigates Pixel 9 issues

Google is investigating ongoing issues between the Pixel 9 series and Android Auto, as well as confirming a fix for 5GHz Wi-Fi issues that’s been ongoing for a while.

Android Auto issues are far from uncommon, and that’s why we get new updates on a pretty regular basis. In some recent updates, Google is addressing and investigating some known issues.

With the recent Android Auto 13.3 update, which has been rolling out widely in recent weeks, Google says that an issue with devices being told they couldn’t use Android Auto due to a lack of 5GHz Wi-Fi support should now be fixed. Affected users saw a notification that their “phone doesn’t support 5GHz Wi-Fi connections” This was apparently sent in error, as while 5GHz is required for wireless connections, it is not needed for wired connections. This issue was trending on Google’s forums for a few weeks, any seems to have affected a large number of users.

Google is also investigating other ongoing issues. This includes an issue where the screen freezes on Xiaomidevices, where there’s no audio, and two issues related to the Pixel 9 series.As we previously reported, some Pixel 9 owners are running into issues where call audio isn’t coming through properly on Android Auto, and some are running into issues with Android Auto disconnecting. There’s no fix available yet, but Google is aware.
