'The Dragon Prince' Season 8 Theories: Will Callum Use The Rune Cube To Lock Aaravos?
There have been a lot of rumors circulating around the internet concerning the fate of Netflix’s The Dragon Prince, mostly because the streaming platform hasn’t made any official announcements yet. So, let me simplify this for you. The seventh season wasn’t the final conclusion. [Spoiler Alert] It only marked the end of the second arc of the story, with Archmage Aaravos’ death. But as the Celestial Elves had pointed out, the Fallen Star couldn’t be killed as he was destined to be born again. He will return to Xadia in seven years when his stars will once again align with the world. Now, the showmakers had originally planned to conclude the series in 10 seasons, where seasons 8, 9, and 10 would cover the third and final arc of the story. If you have finished watching season 7, then you can speculate that these three seasons will center around how humans and elves work together to prepare themselves for Aaravos’ return to the world. They can’t go killing him every time he resurrects because that will only start an unending loop, which means they will have to find a way to lock him up, just like the elder elves, humans, and archdragons had done in the past. As of now, I am not even sure if the show will get renewed for three more seasons, but that’s not stopping us from theorizing about future events, right? So let’s get to it.
A Major Time JumpI am quite certain that the third arc of The Dragon Prince will begin with another time jump in the story where we will see that the kids have all grown up and have turned Evrkynd into a magnificent city engaged in building magical weapons to fight the Archmage. Now, we all know in broad strokes what the final conclusion is gonna be: after Aaravos’ return, the humans and the elves will try to find a way to imprison him for eternity. In short, we don’t have much story left, and it can all be depicted in a two-hour animated film instead of three seasons or 27 episodes. The film could begin with a time jump, a few months or days before Aaravos’ arrival, where the humans and the elves go on an adventure to find a perfect prison to capture the Archmage.
The Magical Cube Can Be The KeySeven seasons down, and we still don’t know the true purpose of the ancient cube, the Key of Aaravos, which was introduced in the very beginning of the series. We have seen Aaravos using the cube to unlock a thick magical book in his library, but no one really knows what happened to the book after Aaravos was locked in the Pearl Prison. My best guess is that Callum will find this book while looking for a means to create a powerful prison for the Great One. We already know that Claudia had killed Tidebound Tina, which means they cannot create another Pearl Prison and may have to find or create a similar structure to serve their purposes. And I don’t think Callum will dare try to use the cursed coin again, especially when he knows that the use of dark magic will only corrupt his soul and make him vulnerable to the evil forces. So, if I am not reaching too far here, then Callum could trap the Archmage inside his own rune cube, the Key of Aaravos. I mean, going by the principle of Chekhov’s gun, this ancient cube has literally been right in front of our eyes since season 1. And we are all just waiting for the moment when it will finally trigger.
The Last Quasar Diamond Still Has A Role To PlaySomeone commented on my previous article that Callum and Ezran are going to use the last remaining Quasar diamond to save their father, King Harrow of Katolis, whose spirit was exchanged with his parrot’s by evil mage Viren, at the end of season 1. Now, I am not an expert in dark magic or sorcery, but I don’t think these diamonds work that way. In season 7, Claudia took out the rare diamond from her father’s dark wand and used it to release Aaravos from his magical prison. Whereas, Callum used one of the Quasar diamonds that he got from the Starscraper Elves to free Runaan from Viren’s cursed coin. In both these cases, their mortal vessel was locked inside an object, but that isn’t the case with King Harrow. It’s quite different, and I am sure Callum will find a way to transfer his stepfather’s spirit into a human body, but he won’t be using the last Quasar diamond for the purpose. This remaining Quasar diamond is going to play a huge role in creating a spell to capture Aaravos inside another magical prison where he will be locked till eternity.
Claudia May DieUnlike the others, Claudia is eagerly waiting for Aaravos’ return, as with the help of the Archmage, she wants to take revenge on all those who had a part to play in her father’s death. In simple words, Claudia is going to be one of the main antagonists of the show and will try to keep the young human mage from achieving his goals. However, it is quite obvious that she won’t succeed. It wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Claudia will eventually suffer the same fate as her father. She may turn against the evil Archmage and choose to sacrifice her life to save humanity. I believe Claudia’s mother, who had left her children while they were young, might make an appearance to convince Claudia to leave the darkness behind and not repeat the same mistakes as her father. Claudia still doesn’t know why her mother had walked out on the family, and the moment she finds out the truth, she may decide to choose a different path in life, just like her brother, Soren.
Callum May LiveI know a lot of people have been theorizing from the past few seasons that Callum will eventually die or sacrifice his life before turning a pawn of the Archmage. But I don’t think the showrunners would want to give Claudia and Callum the same fate, and in order to make a distinction, they might introduce a method through which Callum will be able to cleanse his soul just like he did before. I am really hopeful that the show is going to end on a happy note with Callum starting a new life with the love of his life, Rayla. And being a stereotypical Indian, I don’t want to miss the chance to mention a prospect of marriage between Ezran and the young Queen Aanya of Duren. And as far as the other characters are concerned, season 7 has already given a happy ending to most of them.
However, the only thing I am not very sure about is what role the young dragon prince, Azymondias, or Zym, is going to play in the upcoming seasons. We all know that all the archdragons perished during Aaravos’ death. But does that mean Zym is going to be the next archdragon who is going to protect humans and the elves alike? As I said, I really have no idea about Zym’s fate, so do let me know what your thoughts are on this. Also, feel free to share your theories or things you expect from the final arc of The Dragon Prince.
