"Boycott Port Dickson Beach!" - M'sians Angered by City Council's No-Camping Rule at the Beach

Malaysians are boycotting Port Dickson Beach after City Council officers prohibited visitors from camping.

In a Facebook post by the City Council in Port Dickson (MPPD), the officers conducted a random patrol and observed the beach to ensure all rules were followed. They wanted to ensure that no visitors set up tents and campfires, and that the place was free of alcohol.

Visitors were given multiple verbal warnings about camping, and MPPD reminded everyone to always abide by the rules to keep the environment safe

Last year, the same beach went viral after a Malaysian family was reprimanded by a tent rental operator for setting up picnic mats and huge canopies at the place.

Will you get fined for breaking the rules?

According to Negeri Sembilan’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said that visitors are only allowed to put picnic mats on the beaches in the district, which include Pantai Bagan Pinang, Pantai Saujana dan Pantai Cahaya Negeri.

Any tourist caught breaking the rules (yes, including camping) can be fined RM1,000 under the Undang-Undang Kecil Taman (MPPD) 2008.

“Might as well set up thorny fences around the beach”

Malaysian social media users, on the other hand, were not happy about the no-camping enforcement, and many are calling for a boycott of the place while accusing enforcement of sabotaging tourism in the area.

“Boycott Port Dickson Beach! The City Council officers are making a mess.”

“Might as well put up fences with thorns around the area. Better yet, deploy soldiers there as if they were patrolling the border of the country, so no one can enter.”

“Who came up with this instruction?”

“Does the beach belong to the city council? Did they build it?”

“This is the chance to attract tourists, not to cause inconvenience.”

“Which rules and regulations did they use to stop the people from camping on the beach?”

“After this, they will wonder why there are fewer tourists on the beach.”
