Experts from Yale University have reportedly found a worrying syndrome connected to mRNA Covid vaccines.

Since the vaccines came out in 2021, thousands of people have said they’ve experienced side effects from the shots, as reported by Sinar Harian.

Post-vaccination syndrome

However, the fragmented United States healthcare system makes it difficult to track rare side effects.

Big studies haven’t been able to clearly tell apart symptoms that appear after getting the Covid shot from health issues that could have happened anyway.

Symptoms of this newly identified condition, called “post-vaccination syndrome,” include brain fog, dizziness, ringing in the ears, and difficulty exercising.

The research is still in progress

This condition also seems to reactivate a dormant virus in the body called Epstein-Barr, which can cause flu-like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, and even neurological issues.

The full results of this small-scale study haven’t been published yet, and Yale immunologist Dr. Akiko Iwasaki, who led the study, said the research is still in its early stages and needs more validation.

The next step is to figure out how common this condition is and who’s most at risk.

PVS patients had different immune cell levels

The mRNA vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer are believed to have saved tens of millions of lives worldwide, including around 3 million in the United States.

In this latest study, Iwasaki’s team looked at blood samples from 42 people dealing with post-vaccination syndrome (PVS) and 22 people without it between December 2022 and November 2023.

When checking their immune systems, researchers noticed that those with PVS had different levels of certain immune cells.

The team also studied 134 people with Long Covid since its symptoms seem to overlap with PVS, along with 134 healthy vaccinated individuals. Their findings showed that both Long Covid and PVS patients had signs of Epstein-Barr virus reactivation.

A common virus that spreads through saliva and semen

Over 90% of adults have had Epstein-Barr at some point, and it’s a common virus that spreads through things like saliva or semen.

It can cause fatigue, fever, and rashes, but even after symptoms fade, the virus stays in the body and can reactivate when the immune system is weak.

People with PVS were also found to have higher levels of Covid spike proteins than those with Long Covid, a condition with similar symptoms.

Experts believe the lingering spike proteins could be a reason for some Long Covid symptoms, keeping the body in a constant state of inflammation.
