KUCHING, Feb 20: The Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) Sarawak issued 14 notices to contractors across Kuching for failing to adhere to construction regulations under Act 520.

According to a press statement, during an integrated enforcement operation across Kuching with several government agencies, CIDB issued 14 notices to contractors for non-compliance with Act 520, which regulates Malaysia’s construction industry.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP) issued three notices related to violations of occupational safety and health regulations at several construction sites.

The operation also found that several contractors failed to meet CIDB’s requirements, including not possessing a valid CIDB Certificate of Registration, failing to register their construction workers, and non-compliance with site safety management standards.

“This operation is part of CIDB and relevant agencies’ ongoing efforts to enhance compliance and safety standards in the construction industry.

“Further action will be taken against contractors who fail to comply with regulations, including possible fines or legal action,” it said.

“Authorities will continue monitoring and enforcement efforts to uphold safety, quality, and legal compliance in the construction industry.

“Contractors are urged to immediately comply with the required regulations to avoid stricter legal actions in the future,” CIDB warned.

Inspections were also carried out by the Sarawak Labour Department (JTK) and Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) to ensure that all companies and workers met registration requirements and that workers’ rights were upheld.

During the operation, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) conducted health inspections on construction workers, particularly regarding the provision of healthcare facilities and hygiene at construction sites.

The whole operation involved agencies from JTK, SSM, JKKP, KKM, and the Sarawak Construction Academy (ABM).

The focus was on contractor and worker registration compliance, construction site safety, worker health, and adherence to construction industry regulations.

The public is encouraged to report any violations in the construction sector to CIDB Sarawak or relevant agencies to ensure that the industry grows sustainably, safely, and in accordance with established regulations. – DayakDaily
