KUCHING, Feb 20: Road users in Kuching are advised to plan their journeys in advance and remain cautious of ongoing road widening works along Jalan Tun Jugah (in front of Premier 101 Food Centre and Emporium Kuching) for the construction of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) stations.
In a press statement today, Sarawak Metro said along the Red Line alignment, from Kuching Sentral to Pending, road widening works and the construction of ART stations have already started.
For Jalan Tun Jugah, traffic management measures and signages were put in place, in preparation for the construction of an ART station at the road median in front of Premier 101 Food Centre and Emporium Kuching.
Sarawak Metro and its Red Line contractor, a joint venture between Sri Datai Construction (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, JT JV Builders Sdn Bhd and CHEC Construction (M) Sdn Bhd, are working closely to ensure all the traffic management measures are ready.
They are also constantly engaging with the relevant government authorities and agencies to ensure the smooth traffic flow along the work sites.
“We will also have dialogue sessions with the relevant stakeholders from time to time to coordinate efforts and mitigate potential traffic issues,” said Sarawak Metro’s chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa.
“Recognising that Jalan Tun Jugah is a key roadway with high traffic volume, Sarawak Metro is working closely with our contractor to ensure the traffic management plan is fully implemented while prioritising the safety and well-being of the public.”
Road users are advised to plan their journeys ahead, allow for extra travel time, consider alternative routes where possible, and exercise patience while driving through the construction zone.
“We deeply appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation, as Sarawak Metro works towards transforming Kuching’s public transport system,” said Mazli.
For updates on traffic management measures for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, members of the public are urged to check Sarawak Metro’s official online social media channels.
