Sarawak aims to bid for World Robot Olympiad next year to strengthen robotics, STEM hub ambition

KUCHING (Feb 21): Sarawak aims to bid for the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) next year, reinforcing its ambition to become a leading hub for robotics and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, said Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

The State Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development said the initiative underscores Sarawak’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement.

“The launch of Makeramai Makerspace today marks a significant step towards building a dynamic and inclusive digital ecosystem.

“This space provides students, researchers and entrepreneurs with the tools to explore innovative technologies, collaborate across disciplines and develop impactful solutions,” he said when launching the Makeramai Makerspace and closing the Sarawak Digital STEM Demo Day here today.

Sagah also highlighted that the Sarawak Science Centre, set to open next year, would serve as a hub for scientific exploration, featuring interactive exhibits and state-of-the-art facilities.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) said in a statement that Makeramai Makerspace is equipped with a range of facilities, including electronics, design, and multimedia labs.

It is envisioned as a vibrant community hub supporting the growth of Sarawak’s maker ecosystem.
