KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — Those affected by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights have been advised to lodge police reports to facilitate the investigation and distribute aid.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister and Kota Raja MP Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the police reports were important to facilitate follow-up action by the authorities, including extending aid to victims concerned.
“We urge all those affected to file reports involving the damage, loss and so on. The police have opened more counters to facilitate this process,” he told reporters after visiting the incident command post on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, today.
Yesterday, Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said police received 66 reports from victims in the fire, most of them over damage to their homes and vehicles.
On Tuesday, Petronas confirmed the fire broke out at the main pipeline owned by Petronas Gas Bhd.
The fire, which erupted at 8.10am, took nearly eight hours to extinguish and resulted in a 10m-deep, 500sqm crater.
Mohamad said affected homeowners are allowed to go home today for inventory inspection.
They will be accompanied by police, Fire and Rescue Department, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd personnel.
He said the fire affected 485 people, and 33 of them are in hospital.
