A Chinese mukbang influencer has sparked outrage after a video of him hoarding expensive seafood at a buffet restaurant in Japan went viral.

The clip, posted by Deng Xuanfeng — who boasts over 4.3 million followers on Douyin — shows him aggressively consuming high-end items such as salmon, wagyu beef, and king crab legs, claiming it was an act of revenge against Japanese people.

Mocked staff and twisted subtitles

In the video, a restaurant staff member was seen politely asking if Deng could finish the large amount of food on his plate, cautioning him not to waste.

However, Deng manipulated the scene with misleading subtitles, claiming the staff was “trying to kick me out.”

At one point, when a server looked at the leftover plates, Deng’s friend remarked dramatically, “Uh-oh, he glared at you.” Deng then lashed out in Chinese, saying, “What are you glaring at?”

Disrespectful remarks throughout meal

Deng further escalated the situation by making derogatory comments, repeatedly referring to the Japanese using the slur “guizi.”

While eating, he declared, “Don’t the guizi love sashimi? Let me teach them how to eat!” and “Today, I’ll teach them a lesson!”

He also expressed disappointment when the restaurant didn’t offer tableside grilling, stating he had hoped to “make [the server] suffer.”

Netizens criticise behaviour

The video, titled Clearing Out Japan’s No. 1 Seafood Buffet, received over 350,000 views but was met with mixed reactions.

While some praised the feast, many condemned Deng’s actions as disrespectful and harmful.

One user sarcastically commented, “Nice, this only deepens other countries’ stereotypes of us.”

Others expressed concern over the influencer’s behavior painting Chinese tourists in a bad light abroad.

No food wasted, but no support either

Despite Deng’s claim that no food was wasted, viewers remained critical of the stunt’s tone and intent.

Several have called for Douyin to take action against influencers who spread xenophobic messages under the guise of content creation.

As of now, Deng has not issued a public response to the backlash.
