This new Google TV streaming dongle looks just like a Chromecast [Gallery]

The Chromecast is effectively dead, but a new Google TV streaming stick just happens to look nearly identical to it.

When it launched the Google TV Streamer last year, Google also said goodbye to the Chromecast with Google TV family. The streaming dongle had a nice form factor with a built-in HDMI cable, something that Google’s replacement doesn’t offer, and is missing from many third-party options as well.

That’s where the Thomson Cast 150 steps in. This new streaming dongle shares virtually the same design as the Chromecast. The rounded shape and length of the HDMI cable shares an uncanny resemblance to the Chromecast with Google TV. Like Chromecast, this device is also powered by USB-C.

The biggest difference isn’t in the physical hardware itself, but rather the remote, which adopts Google’s reference design and adds in a “Live TV” button, as is apparently now required of new hardware using this platform.

Under the hood, specs are also apparentlysimilar to the Chromecast with Google TV (4K), with an unknown Amlogic chipset, 2GB of RAM, and a measly 8GB of storage. It runs Android 14 out of the box.

However, this device isn’t available to all users. Right now, it’s only sold in Europe, and Thomson typically only sells its devices in that region. While portions of the “Thomson GO” lineup are now for sale, the Cast 150 is not yet, and its price point is unclear.
