Earth Day 2025: Our power, our planet

April 22, 2025 marks the 56th anniversary of Earth Day. Over decades, Earth Day has led the world in educating and mobilizing the public to take action to address critically important environmental issues.
Deforestation, over-industrialization and damage of the marine environment can lead to global warming by emitting greenhouse gases. The World Meteorological Organization confirms that 2024 was the warmest year on record, with a global temperature of 1.55 ± 0.13 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial baseline. From 2022 to 2023, the annual mean carbon dioxide in the global surface atmosphere increased by 2.3 parts per million (ppm). Global surface carbon dioxide levels have risen by over 2 ppm every year since 2012.
This year's theme – Our Power, Our Planet – calls for everyone to unite around renewable energy so we can triple clean electricity by 2030, according to the Earth Day official website.
