M'sian Math Teacher Listed As One Of The World's Top 18 Educators | WeirdKaya

A mathematics teacher from Sekolah Menengah Teknik (SMT) Tuanku Ja’afar has made Malaysia proud on the global stage.

According to Harian Metro, She was selected as one of only 18 educators worldwide for the prestigious Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program in Spring 2025.

Excelled among thousands of applicants

Lee Chye Mei was the sole Malaysian representative chosen for the fully funded academic and cultural exchange programme in the United States, beating out thousands of applicants to earn her place at Georgia State University.

As part of the programme, Lee had the opportunity to teach at North Atlanta High School for six weeks. She was inspired by the school’s student-centred learning environment, where the creative use of technology transformed the classroom into an engaging and dynamic space.

“I am filled with indescribable pride”

Sharing her Malaysian identity abroad was also a deeply meaningful experience.

Lee expressed heartfelt thanks to the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) for the opportunity.

“Without their support, I might not be here. They saw a small spark in me that could create a bigger impact,” she said.

For Lee, teaching goes beyond textbooks and exams. She believes educators play a key role in helping young people dream big and believe in their potential.
