In a recent move to refresh its fleet, the Penang State Government has spent RM3.3 million on 15 new Toyota Camry vehicles.
Replacing 2020 cars with newer modelsThe new Toyota Camry 2.5V (AT) (CBU) vehicles are meant to replace official cars that were previously purchased in 2020.
According to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, the total cost — RM3,311,895 — includes all relevant taxes and excise duties, reported by Buletin Mutiara.
Who gets the cars?Of the 15 vehicles, 10 are designated for members of the State Executive Council (MMK), while three more are allocated to key ex-officio officials — namely the State Secretary, State Financial Officer, and State Legal Advisor.
The remaining two cars will be used by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Penang State Legislative Assembly.
The announcement came as Chow responded to questions posed by Air Putih Assemblyman Lim Guan Eng and Penaga Assemblyman Yusni Mat Piah during a session at the State Legislative Assembly.
Chow clarified that the decision was made to ensure state officials have reliable vehicles for their official duties.
