SHAH ALAM - Renowned Islamic speaker Nouman Ali Khan has urged Muslims around the world to unite and engage in self-reflection by drawing lessons from Surah Al-Saff of the Quran in facing the global economic crisis.
Nouman, who is also the founder of the Bayyinah Institute, said the world must return to the teachings of the Quran to avoid being swept away by propaganda often spread by corrupt leaders using methods contrary to Islamic teachings, including oppression.
"Allah’s words in Surah Al-Saff clearly outline the importance of unity in upholding the religion of Allah while navigating life’s challenges. Like a ship braving the ocean waves, every ummah must support one another to overcome division and hardship.
"With sincerity, faith and unity, we must be willing to sacrifice for success in this world and the hereafter, while carefully evaluating our every action,” he said during a lecture at the Road to World #Quran Convention 2025 held at the Karangkraf building here today.
Themed Reflections on Al-Saff: Guiding Leadership, Unity and the Global Economy, the special session highlighted four current challenges facing the Muslim ummah: shaken faith, hypocrisy, oppression and the obstruction of truth.
Nouman also recommended that Muslims adhere firmly to the five core principles of the Hawariyyun (#SavingTheUmmah) as preparation to face the present and future global economic challenges.
Based on Surah Al-Saff, he explained that these principles focused on consistency and integrity, ensuring Muslims remain honest, trustworthy and firm in their values.
"Additionally, Muslims must stay united to achieve shared goals and vision, followed by the third principle related to leadership and obedience - to follow leaders rooted in faith and truth.
"The next principle is commitment to wealth and life, which stresses sacrifice of possessions and life for sincerity, while the final principle is to cooperate and support one another,” he said.
Elaborating further, Nouman said that these principles lead towards three main goals: seeking Allah’s help, receiving divine rewards, and attaining success, as highlighted in verses 12 and 13 of Surah Al-Saff.
At the same time, he emphasised that Muslims must also strengthen their spirituality through ‘tasbih’ or ‘dhikr’, which served as a vital source of spiritual strength.
The event, attended by 200 participants, also featured prominent national journalist Tan Sri Johan Jaafar, former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir. - BERNAMA
