'Dora And the Search for Sol Dorado' Movie Ending Explained: What Was Dora’s Wish?
In the ending of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, the titular explorer finally found the Golden Sun, hidden deep inside the Amazon Rainforest. Centuries ago, it was the people of the Incan civilization who had found the magical star fallen from the sky and named it Sol Dorado. The glowing star was believed to have magical powers, and therefore, to protect it from falling into the wrong hands, the Inca people hid their most prized possession inside a temple filled with booby traps so that only the person with the purest of souls would ever be able to locate their treasure. It was Dora’s grandfather who first told her about Sol Dorado, and she had been obsessed with it ever since, scouting the rainforest with her cousin, Diego, every now and then so she could finally locate the hidden treasure. And they hit a jackpot when they found the bracelet of the last Inca emperor, Atahualpa, and this magical bracelet not only showed them visions of the location where Sol Dorado was hidden, but also led them straight to its temple. So, with that said, let’s take a detailed look at the film’s ending and explore what we can expect next.
Spoiler Alert
Dora Made a Selfless WishAt the beginning of the film, Dora’s Abuelo had told young Dora and young Diego that the Golden Sun has the power to grant one selfless wish, a wish that must strengthen the power of Ayllu, which means teamwork, a bond that connects us all. Well, the wish didn’t really have anything to do with Dora’s passion to find the long-lost legend. She just wanted to discover it because her late Abuelo had always believed that Dora would one day finally locate Sol Dorado. However, this particular wish had great significance at the end of the film, with the way it mended the relationship between the two cousins, Dora and Diego.
If you remember, even before the adventure started, Diego wanted to tell Dora that he had been accepted into the College of Zoology in New York, which meant he would be going off on his own adventure, leaving Dora behind. He wasn’t sure how Dora would react to his departure, and thought she would definitely try to talk him out of it. This was why he wasn’t able to gather the right words to share the news with her. The thing is, the cousins had been together since childhood, and Dora had always been quite attached to people and things around her, just like the map or the backpack. When Diego first told her about the special zoology program, Dora’s first question was, “Do you want to leave the jungle?” I mean, I understand that she didn’t want to lose sight of her cousin, who had been there for her through thick and thin, but they couldn’t keep hunting down adventures forever, right? Dora had her own passion to follow, and Diego had his own.
So, in Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado’s ending, it all came down to making a wish using Sol Dorado. Dora didn’t ask anything for herself. She made a selfless wish, asking the Golden Sun to get Diego an admission into the zoology program he wanted so he could start his own new adventure away from her and lead the life he always wanted to. And this was in line with what Dora’s Abuelo said about strengthening one’s ayllu by helping each other and being together.
Dora Finally Saw the Green FlashAt the beginning of the film, Dora was quite heartbroken after she lost the precious map she’d been given by none other than her late Abuelo. This was the moment when Dora told Diego about the Green Flash that usually happens during the sunset. According to Dora, it’s a sign from someone you miss who’s letting you know from the afterlife that things are going to be okay. Dora was actually missing Abuelo, and she truly believed that she’d seen the Green Flash, but it didn’t happen. Actually, Dora had never seen the Green Flash, which made her lose her faith in it. However, in the film’s ending, as soon as Diego left for New York, and Dora ran towards a ridge to wave him the final goodbye, Dora finally saw a green light flashing in the sky. It was Abuelo sending her the message that even though Diego had left, she would be okay by herself, and she just needed to focus on her next big adventure. Before leaving, Diego had left a blank map in Dora’s backpack, just like the one their Abuelo had given Dora years ago. So that’s all she needs to do now: pick her next adventure and fill that map with her explorations.
Camila the Crusader Found Her Inner CompassSince childhood, the famed treasure hunter Camila the Crusader had been Dora’s inspiration, and she’d always wanted to become an explorer like her. However, when she found out that Camila had hired some really shady bad guys to unearth the hidden treasure of the Incan civilization, she kind of lost respect for this childhood hero of hers. She couldn’t fathom what changed Camila so much that she had started acting like a pirate. The thing was, years ago, Camila was going to explore the tomb of Inti Kancha on live television, but to her worst luck, she didn’t find a single treasure inside the tomb. People not only started mocking her but also stopped watching her show, because of which her show was cancelled and her career was over. This was why she decided to hunt down the most fabled legend, Sol Dorado, so she could get her fame and name back. However, while working alongside Dora, Camila realized that she didn’t used to go on treasure hunts to please her audience or the show’s producer. She did it because she loved exploring the world, but somewhere down the line, she lost her “inner compass.” Fortunately, she found it again, and she was grateful to Dora for showing her the right path. In the end, she didn’t even want to take credit for finding Sol Dorado, because it was Dora’s adventure. But because Sol Dorado was really a sacred treasure for Inca civilization, I guess Dora, Diego, Camila, and the others decided to keep its location a secret so that the whole world wouldn’t end up arriving at the rainforest to possess the Golden Sun. The film didn’t reveal it, but I think no one really took credit for finding Sol Dorado, and Dora and Camila were just happy knowing the fact that they had located the long-lost legend.
