KUCHING, July 15: A total of 149 public health clinics in Sarawak, covering 70 per cent of the State’s patient load, are expected to fully transition to a paperless system by the end of this year.

Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the initiative was made possible through a RM10 million allocation from the Sarawak government last year.

“With the RM10 million grant from the Sarawak government in 2024, 149 out of 271 clinics, which cover 70 per cent of the patient load in Sarawak, will go paperless by the end of this year, meaning patients will no longer need to carry physical folders,” he said in a Facebook post after a working visit to the Batu Kawa Health Clinic here recently.

Dr Sim went on to say that the Batu Kawa Health Clinic is also undergoing several infrastructure upgrades.

“A RM900,000 upgrade is being carried out at the Batu Kawa Health Clinic, covering the expansion of the blood test laboratory, air conditioning system, electrical works, and septic tank improvements.

“The upgrade is currently 12 per cent complete and progressing on schedule, with completion targeted for December 2025,” he added.

Dr Sim also called for public understanding and patience during the ongoing construction and digital transition at the Batu Kawa Health Clinic. — DayakDaily
