PRS to hold TDC on Oct 18–19, all leadership posts open for contest

KUCHING, Aug 10: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will hold its Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) on October 18–19 at the Riverside Majestic Hotel here, with all top office bearers unanimously agreeing to defend their current posts.

PRS president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum announced this during a press conference following a supreme council meeting held today.

“Yes, there will be a contest, as based on the constitution, and we will need the divisions to nominate the various candidates for the various posts.

“We have unanimously persuaded each other to defend their current posts. So, in other words, all the incumbents will offer themselves for contest,” he said.

On the first day of the TDC on October 18, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate the plenary opening, in which the party’s Women and Youth wings will also hold their respective TDCs in the afternoon.

Salang added that the party’s main body will then convene on October 19, with all divisions expected to send delegates and observers as approved by the accreditation committee.

He explained that the accreditation committee will assess the eligibility of divisions based on membership numbers before determining the number of delegates and observers allowed to attend.

“For Women and Youth wings, they will also be advised to organise a meeting within the specific period to select their leadership lineup and determine their delegates and observers to attend the TDC,” he said.

On January 5, Salang said that all leadership positions, including the presidency, remain open for contest at the upcoming TDC. — DayakDaily
