PDRM Arrest 16 Teenagers in JB & Seize Their Basikal Lajaks, Parents Reminded to Monitor Their Kids

A total of 16 teenagers were arrested in a special operation to crack down on basikal lajak activities around Johor Bahru, Johor, on Merdeka Day yesterday (31 August).
According to a report by Sinar Harian, Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief, Superintendent Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei shared that the teenagers were aged between 11 and 15.

Moreover, 16 bicycles were seized under Section 112(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further inspections.
“The special operation conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Headquarters from 11 AM also saw all 16 bicycles seized,”
“A total of 16 POL. 257 summonses were also issued for various offences such as riding a bicycle without brakes, without a bell and without a light on the back,” he said.
A message to parentsSuperintendent Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei went on to explain that the parents, or legal guardians of the teenagers, were asked to appear at the Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Headquarters to take statements and were advised that strict action would be taken if the offence was committed again.
He said that Section 33(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001 provides for a fine of up to RM20,000 or imprisonment of not more than 5 years for guardians who are negligent in supervising their children.
“After the recording of their statements was completed, all the teenagers involved were released and handed back to their parents and family members,”
“The police advise the public, especially parents with minor children, to always monitor their activities so that they do not get involved in any behaviour that could endanger themselves or other road users,” he added.
