'Twelve' Finale Episodes 7-8 Recap: Is Ogwi Dead Or Alive?

In the first six episodes of the Korean series Twelve, we got to know how the 12 angels ended up in the mortal realm, how they had trapped all the evil in what was known as the Hellmouth, and how Samin, an evil conjurer, wanted to spread darkness and establish his dominion over the planet. Ogwi, a human whose soul was corrupted back in the day, had been resurrected by Samin in the hopes that he would help him find the soul stones. He needed those three stones, as with them, he could become the most powerful being in the world by tapping into the powers of Haetae (an angel who once was very close to Taesan before he was corrupted by the Darkness). Samin already had two stones in his possession, he just needed the dragon stone in order to unleash his wrath upon the whole world. So let’s find out what happened in episodes 7 and 8 and if Taesan was able to stop Samin.

Spoiler Alert

How did Ogwi turn evil?

Ogwi was not always an evil soul, and he paid a huge price for falling in love with an angel. Mirr loved Ogwi too, and she wanted to spend her whole life with him, but she knew that her people, i.e., the angels, would never approve of their relationship. Ogwi believed in his love, but there were times when he really felt helpless. He constantly tried to find a solution to his problem, but he knew that it wasn’t so easy to change the ways of nature. There were 12 angels, and God had granted them such great powers for a reason. Ogwi felt that if he prayed with all sincerity, then the gods might grant him superpowers too, just like Marok was. But Mirr told him that he should never commit that mistake, as being an angel came with its own set of issues and problems. An angel had to put their life at risk and fight evil spirits, and Mirr didn’t want that kind of life for Ogwi. Then one day something unprecedented happened to Ogwi, something that even he hadn’t foreseen. The Darkness had mysterious ways of corrupting souls and preying upon innocent people. A powerful priest (as Ogwi referred to him) was given powers by the Darkness, and he in turn cast a magic spell on Ogwi. That man was Samin, who had been sent into the mortal realm to spread chaos and cause widespread destruction. Samin’s end goal was to establish his dominion over the entire planet, corrupt the souls of humans, make them a part of his army, and then eradicate all the light from the world and let darkness prevail. After Ogwi got his powers and turned evil, Marok felt that it was best for everybody if he was caged in that rocky terrain. That’s how Ogwi ended up there. For thousands of years, his soul was trapped in those rocks, but then Samin found him. Samin was desperate to find the soul stones, and he knew that there was only one man who could help his cause. Though Ogwi had turned evil, there was some kindness, some love still left in his heart. Yes, he didn’t have his memories; he had forgotten the moments he had shared with Mirr, but he just needed a nudge to remember everything that had happened. Ogwi never meant to harm anybody; he just wanted to be with the love of his life, little did he know that he would have to pay a huge cost for it.

How Did Taesan stop Samin?

We saw in Twelve Episode 6 that Ogwi had taken Mirr with her, as he wanted to save her life. Mirr came back to her senses at the beginning of episode 7, and she too got her memories back. She remembered the time she had spent with Ogwi, and she was disappointed that he had sold his soul to the evil powers. Ogwi wanted to stop Mirr, but she left him. Samin seized the opportunity, and he captured her, as he still wanted Mirr’s soul stone in order to harness Haetae’s powers. Samin successfully conducted the ritual, and he was finally able to get what he wanted. Samin, now more powerful than ever, played a masterstroke; he resurrected the angels who perished during the fight that happened between them and Haetae, back in the day. These angels were siblings of Taesan and his gang, and so they didn’t know how to fight against them and how to hurt them. Samin just wanted to make the lives of the angels difficult; he wanted them to fight a psychological battle amongst themselves. He wanted them to feel guilty while taking up arms against their own siblings. When Taesan saw his resurrected siblings, he realised that they didn’t have any other option other than to fight back. He told the angels to defend themselves while he went and saved Mirr’s life. Taesan and Ogwi (who came back to save Mirr) fought Samin, but even after joining forces, they found it hard to hold their ground. Samin would have killed Taesan, but Ogwi got in the way, and he sacrificed his life. That particular move was proof that Ogwi was not an evil man, and there was a lot of goodness still left inside him. Seeing Samin kill Ogwi in the most ruthless manner enraged Taesan. With all his power, all his might, Taesan fought back, and eventually he was able to kill Samin.

Taesan sealed the Hellmouth, and the world went back to normal. Also, it was a blessing in disguise for the keepers of the peace that all their siblings who had perished in the battle with Haetae had come back to life. Now, since they had not been around for thousands of years, they had a hard time adjusting to the new world. From mobile phones to cotton candy, everything fascinated them, and they just couldn’t imagine that humans had created everything on their own. Taesan organized a team dinner at the end of Twelve episode 8, and he felt grateful to have his entire family back.

Is Ogwi Dead Or Alive?

I believe that Mirr felt a very eerie presence that she couldn’t describe in words. She was meeting a prospective client and pitching her work when she had a strange feeling. She heard a crow cry and it compelled her to go to the same cave where Ogwi had been trapped for years. Ogwi’s body lay in Taesan’s basement, and Mirr knew that there was no chance that he could still be lingering around somehow. There was a gust of wind that blew in front of Mirr’s face, and deep down she knew that there was some dark magic at play. Then we saw that Taesan had a similar feeling, and he buckled up since he knew that something really bad was going to happen. Season 1 left us on a cliffhanger where we saw the crimson-colored core of Ogwi glowing once more. Well, what it meant was that Ogwi had been brought back to life and the fight between the keepers of peace and the Darkness was still not over. The Darkness had its ways and means of operating and making sure that its influence never truly vanished from the mortal realm. It could be possible that somehow it had managed to bring back Haetae, the mascot of the angels who used to be quite close to Taesan. It also could have been possible that the Hellmouth wasn’t closed properly and somehow some evil and dark entity had managed to climb their way into the mortal realm. Whatever it might have been, it made two things absolutely clear: firstly, Ogwi is pretty much alive, and secondly, the angels have a tough road ahead of them where they will have to face all sorts of life-threatening challenges.
